"Daddy, do you have to go?" Hearing his daughters voice, Race looked up from the suitcase he was packing. The seven-year-old was standing in the doorway of the master bedroom, her emerald eyes watery.

Sighed he nodded, "Yes, I have to."

"Why?" Jessie asked her voice trembling slightly. "Did I do something wrong?"

"No." Race answered firmly. He sat on the edge of the bed and motioned for the girl to come closer. She did and he picked her up, setting her in his lap. "This is not your fault Jessica. It's just... your mother and I really don't get along anymore. It's better that we go our separate ways so we stop hurting each other." And you. He added quietly to himself knowing Jessie had overheard far more of their fights than either he or Estella wanted.

Leaning against her father's chest, Jessie bit her lower lip as she tried not to cry. "W-will I e-ever s-see you again?" She asked.

Hugging her tightly, Race answered, "Of course you will. I'm still your father Jessie, I'm not just going disappear on you."

What was that pain in his chest? Oh right, his heart shattering into a million pieces. He knew the divorce wasn't going to be easy, even if it was the one thing he and Estella didn't really fight over, but he didn't know it was going to be this hard.

"I d-d-don't w-w-want you t-to g-go." Jessie cried. She buried her face in her father's chest as she began crying.

"I know, Jessie, I know." Race murmured as he began to rub her back. I don't want to leave either.

A/N: I think, even though they really weren't getting along at this point, Estella still wanted Race and Jessie to have a relationship. Therefore, though Jessie would be in her custody, she made it as easy as possible for Race and Jessie to still have contact with each other. Of course, Race still wouldn't be able to visit all that often since he agreed to move to Palm Key in order to serve as a bodyguard and tutor for Jonny Quest. I think Jessie and Race still talked often though. It's not like Race would just disappear from her life for 5 years (I think Jessie was twelve and Jonny was 11 when Jess started tagging along on the Quest Team's adventures. Though she was 13 when she started living with them.)
