By the way, I do not own Howl's Moving Castle. I cried about this.
She was tired of this. He would always flutter away whenever she let him back in. He'd only stay for a while. He'd come back and tell her he belonged to her, but she never felt like it. He had promised to put her first.
A cold gust of wind met her when he came in. As usual, there was a carefree smile on his face. Like nothing in the world was bothering him. Like the whole world could end, but he'd be unaffected.
He greeted Calcifer and Markl. He then turned to Sophie, the same smile seemingly etched in his face. "Good evening." He said. She only nodded. Finally, he noticed something was wrong. "Are you alright, Sophie?" she nodded once more.
"I've already eaten dinner." She announced. She headed upstairs. Just as she took the first step into her room, she felt Howl's presence behind her.
"What's the matter?" his voice was serious. "Nothing." She muttered. "Something must be wrong." He said. "You aren't usually like this, Sophie." The look in his eyes softened.
He took her hand. "What's wrong?" he repeated softly. This brought tears into her eyes. "I'm afraid." She mumbled. Howl didn't understand. "I'm afraid that you're going to just leave me. I'm afraid that one day you'll tell me I'm always going to be in your heart, but the next day, you'll just be gone."
"Why would you think that?" he mumbled, smiling sadly. Suddenly, he snapped. He pinned Sophie to the wall, gripping her wrists. "How do you think I feel?!" Tears fell from his face. "You're the first person I've fully given my heart to. You think that I'm not scared that one day I'll wake up to find you gone?" Sophie didn't even notice the pain she was feeling. She was simply shacked. She felt horrible. There she was, feeling like she was the most miserable person in the world, when she could easily be deemed the cruelest. She had let Howl harbor all of these feelings alone. She had made him feel insecure.
"I'm sorry." Was all she could say. Howl snapped his head up. "No." he said, burying his face into the crook of her neck. "You weren't supposed to know. I don't want to dump all of my emotions on you when you're already fighting your own inner demons." Sophie's lips were tugged into a small smile. She patted his head.
"I don't mind." She said. Howl looked up at her. She took his face in her hands and leaned in to kiss his cheek. He turned around at the last moment. Sophie's eyes widened as Howl deepened the kiss.
Both of them knew that this wouldn't be the last time they felt these insecurities. It wouldn't be the last time they'd fight. But they were ready. This was the last time they had to tell the other to put their name at the top of their list.
Please R&R!
