Better Man
Ok, this isn't my usual story. It is about Relena's thoughts while she is in a bad marriage. I don't own the song Better man, by Pearl jam, nor do I own the characters in this story. I do not intend to make any characters look bad, I love em all.
Relena glanced at her watch as she sat silently on the couch. Four o'clock in the morning, and he still wasn't home. She was going to have to ask him when he got home to try to adjust his hours.
Waitin', watchin' the clock, it's four o'clock, it's got to stop
He was also going to have to stop getting money out of her purse. She absentmindedly recited her speech in the bedroom mirror. He was always borrowing money for cigarettes. Why couldn't he just stop smoking?
Tell him, take no more, she practices her speech
As he opens the door, she rolls over...
Pretends to sleep, as he looks her over
She rolled over when she heard the bedroom door open, and pretended to be soundly sleeping. She could fell his gaze sweeping over her. Well, she thought, he would just have to wait to get some.
She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man...
"So, Relena, how have you and the hub been?" questioned Noin at lunch one afternoon.
"Oh, we've been wonderful. We just love each other so much! He is so sweet when we are alone!" it was a lie and both women knew it, but there was nothing they could do about it. Relena had tried to find someone better, but they were all taken.

Relena loved these dreams, even if they weren't even remotely close to reality. That was why she loved them. She dreamt that she and her husband loved each other still. It was memories of when they were still passionate with each other. But she had learned to live with it. Besides, she couldn't find a better man. As she woke up, she began consoling herself, and telling herself she had it better than many other people did.
Memories back when she was bold and strong
She let her mind drift back to her days as a politician. She had been so strong then, so bold and daring.
And waiting for the world to come along...
She was just waiting now, waiting for a world where she could find a better man at to come along.
Swears she'd do it, now she swears he's gone
Why hadn't she married the man she loved? She knew he loved her back. She had totally screwed up. She had even told him she loved the man. She dreamt of him, and his beautiful face every night. Oh, how Relena missed him!

She had thought bout a divorce, but didn't want to actually go through with it. The entire world would find out if that happened, and the last thing she wanted was publicity.
