The Girl in the Corner
The girl in the corner
Is a patient, quiet cat
Observing
But never joining.
The girl in the corner
Is waiting for someone to notice her
To smile in the way that will light the world
And to approach carefully
To say hello.
The girl in the corner
Sits and waits
For years and years
Watching
But no one sees her.
The girl in the corner
Has so much to share
So much to say
That could affect so many lives
If only a person
Would take the time
To hear her.
The girl in the corner
Makes eye contact
With a girl in the party
They stare for a moment
Silence in the deafening noise
And the girl in the corner
Has been noticed
Until the party girl
Looks away.
The girl in the corner
Is sad
But will show no one
And again begin waiting
To be seen
By someone new.
The girl in the corner
Gets old
As the years go by
And blossom into decades
And wilt to a century
Yet still the woman waits.
The girl in the corner
Can barely speak
Can barely move
And still she waits
For someone to come
And hear what she has to say
Before the flower dies.
But the frost comes
And the petals fall.
The girl in the corner
Still remains
In a spirit of quiet and peace
Silence was all she knew
And all she shall ever come to know.
But she will wait, always
For a soul of kindness to see
And come to her
And have their life changed.
Go
Go to the girl who sits alone
And silent
For she is the one
With the most to give
If only we ask for her gift.
The girl in the corner.
