A/N: This idea came to me when I was talking to my brother the other day, so I decidded to take the conversation we had and write it surrounded by rizzles. This is just a bit of fun, it's not linked to anything else that I've written, and I don't plan on writing anymore, but I hope you like it.

"Mommy?" the dark haired girl asked, jumping off the sofa and running over to the kitchen where Maura was preparing dinner.

"What's up baby?" she asked, turning from the carrots she was pealing.

The little girl that Maura had given birth to six years previously smiled warmly up at her. She was the light in Jane and Maura's life, and although wasn't biologically Jane's daughter, she believed she couldn't love her more if she had given birth to her.

The two had decided, fairly quickly, that they wanted children together. It had been decided that Jane would carry their first using Maura's eggs and Frankie had decided to donate sperm for them, so their daughter would be a biological Rizzoli. The act had touched both Jane and Maura's hearts. However, after several implantations, and only one taking, which had led to a miscarriage, they spoke and it was decided that, although Jane would love to carry Maura's child, Maura should try. It didn't matter to Jane, she just wanted a child she could love as her own, and she was silently grateful that Maura was going to try. After experiencing bad news, she was sure she would never be able to carry a child full term, and she knew Maura wanted children more than anything and she was glad she would get the chance to carry her own child.

It had been amazing for Jane, witnessing Maura's body change as she carried their child and Jane found that Maura somehow grew more beautiful every day. Maura had loved being pregnant. She had always wanted to carry child, and it was just as amazing as she imagined. Yes, she got tired easily and she had to stop her work as she was unable to reach the table and the all-day-and-night sickness that Jane has started calling it, wasn't, on any level enjoyable or amazing, but the idea that she could grow a whole human being instead her amazed her, and she loved the bond she had already started to build with her unborn baby.

The small girl had been beautiful from the day she was born. There was no mistaking she was Maura's daughter, she had the same facial features as her mother, but her hair and a large part of her personality shone through as Jane. She had curly dark hair that was often left wild as both her mothers had seen it impossible to get it to stay in anything other than a pony tail for longer than 10 minutes.

She enjoyed spending time with both her mom's, separately and together, as they had both wanted her to be involved in many activities. Maura had wanted to ensure that her daughter wouldn't be left out like she had been because she was different to the other children, and Jane had been worried that she wouldn't be able to make friends as easily due to children thinking it strange she had two mom's so had wanted her to build good friendships before she started school.

Neither had been a problem for her. She had many friends, none of whose parents were bothered about the same sex relationship her parents were in, and although they had experienced some problems already, it was expected, and it wasn't as much as either Jane or Maura thought it would be.

She was always asking questions, and trying to find out why everything was the way that it was and why everything happened in the way that it did, and in that sense she was just like Maura. She was smart for her age, and no one had ever tried to persuade her mom's to limit her knowledge so that she would fit in more. Jane and Maura were happy to provide her with knowledge on almost anything and everything, and Maura had been touched deeply when she had come home from school one day and announced that she was going to be a doctor just like her mommy. Jane was also relieved that she didn't want to be a cop like her, she couldn't imagine her daughter being in such danger that she had been in before, and she finally understood how her own Ma felt.

"How did Ma get the baby inside her belly?" she asked.

Maura frowned. That was one of the few things that she didn't want to have to talk about, not yet anyway. She opened and closed her mouth several times, not exactly knowing what to say. She and Jane had never spoke about what they would tell Ava if she ever asked as they assumed that she wouldn't ask until she was a little older and they could tell her the truth. It wasn't just the complication of her being young, but along with the added idea that they had to use another person's sperm, who happened to be her uncle, and that Jane wasn't her biological mom that they may have to explain as well.

"Well," Maura started. She could tell that Ava was beginning to her impatient with the lack of answer she was getting from her mom.

Just then, Jane came walking through the door, groaning as she did so. She was tired, and all she wanted to do was sleep for as long as humanly possible. Carrying around this baby was hard on her body. Her face lit up, however, when she saw Ava running over to her, a huge smile on her face.

"Ma," she cried out when she heard the door close.

"Hey baby girl, how was your day?" Jane asked her.

"I'm not a baby anymore," Ava said, just like she did every other time Jane called her 'baby girl'. It was a habit that was hard for Jane to break, and no matter how old Ava was, she would always be her baby girl. "That's a baby, in there," Ava told her, pointing to Jane's stomach. "And my day was good, me and mommy went to the park and the library."

"I'm glad you two had fun today, I'm sorry I had to miss it," Jane said, walking over with Ava to where Maura was stood.

Maura still had the peeler in her hand, but put it down when Jane walked over. She wrapped her arms around Jane's waist and Jane placed her own arms over Maura's shoulders. The hugged, then kissed a couple times, just like they did whenever they had spent the day apart.

"I missed you," Maura said. The two woman, although had seen each other that morning hated when they weren't around each other. Even when they were both at work, they weren't far away and they didn't like it when they spent the whole day apart.

"I missed you too Maur'," Jane said. She had been used to having time off work and spending all her time with Ava and Maura when she wasn't called to a crime scene.

Ava wiggled herself in between the two woman.

"And I missed you too," Jane said to Ava, planting a kiss on Ava's head. She would have picked her up, but her bump got in the way of that. "Do you want a hand with dinner?" Jane asked, turning to her wife who began peeling the carrots again, hoping her and Ava's earlier conversation ad been forgotten until a later date.

"No, I want you to rest. You've had a busy day, and I can tell you're tired. You haven't been sleeping have you?" Maura asked her, although knew it was true. She had woken several times in the night, and each time she could that Jane was awake, although she was faking sleeping. Her body was rigid, and even having Maura's arms around her didn't bring her comfort like it normally did.

Jane shook her head and she felt the tears welling up. She could blame it on hormones, but that wasn't the case. "I'm worried something will go wrong. I know how stupid it is to worry, and by worrying I'm only making things worse and then I think about how much worse I'm making things and it makes me worry more," she explained.

It was so close to the end of her pregnancy and she didn't want anything to happen. She had been worried for a while now, and she knew she should have spoken to Maura sooner.

"You should have said something, I could have helped," Maura said.

"I didn't want to disappoint you again," Jane said in barely a whisper, looking down.

"Jane, listen to me," Maura started, lifting Jane's head so their eyes met. "You didn't disappoint me, or let me down, you could never do any of those things. I love you and this time it's different, nothing bad is going to happen."

Jane nodded. She knew that she was being stupid and was just over reacting, but after what had happened last time, she was half expecting something to go wrong again. It hadn't yet, and with it growing closer and closer to her due date, she got more and more worried that something would happen at the last moment.

Maura's hand gently wiped away Jane's tears and she placed a delicate kiss on Jane's lips. Maura wasn't going to let Jane worry about this more than necessary.

"Go and sit down, I'll finish dinner. Spend some time with Ava," Maura told her.

Ava always managed to cheer them both up whenever they were feeling sad, and Jane had only seen her for a little while this morning, so had wanted to spend as much time as she could with her when she got home.

Jane nodded and left Maura to peel the carrots. She sat on the couch and Ava, who was doing a puzzle on the table, finished the piece she was putting in and came to sit next to her Ma.

"Can I ask you something?" Ava asked Jane.

"Of course you, you can ask me anything," Jane told her, not knowing what she was getting herself into.

"How did you get a baby into your belly? Where did it come from?" Ava asked innocently, not realising the awkward position she had put both her mom's in.

Jane thought through what she could say. She didn't want Ava to know to any scientific level the way that they had conceived either or their children and she didn't want to explain how male and females naturally conceived a child. However, Jane wasn't sure how Maura would like her to explain it. There was no doubt in her mind that Maura would hate for her to make up something ridiculous, but she wasn't sure what else to do.

"Did you eat the baby Ma?" Ava asked, bring her mom out of her thoughts. Her eyes were wide, wondering if her mother had in fact eaten a baby.

"No, I didn't eat a baby," Jane said laughing.

"Then where did it come from? Did you always have it in there?" Ava asked, unable to get her head around the idea.

Jane shook her head. "No, the baby hasn't always been in there. Me and mommy wanted a baby for a long time, but it was really hard for us to have one. We couldn't do it the normal way, because you need a mommy and a daddy to have a baby the normal way, so instead we went to a doctor who helped us have the baby. That was how we had you, it took a long time, but it worked and we were so happy. And then I wanted to have a baby as well, so we went back to the doctor and asked him if he could help us again and he said he would. So he used all of our love that we had for each other and made our wish come true," Jane said.

Ava frowned. She understood what her ma had told her, but she had more questions.

"I was in mommy's belly?" she asked.

"Yes, for a long time because you had to grow."

Jane reached over to the photo that was on the small table to the side of the couch. It was a picture of Ava and Maura the day she had been born. She gave it to Ava so she could take a look.

"How did I get out of mommy's belly?" Ava asked.

"She had to have a small operation," Jane explained.

"Didn't that hurt her?" Ava wondered, now sure she had caused her mom a lot of pain.

"Only a little bit. And she loved you so much already that it didn't matter to her, she was just glad that you had been bought into this world safe. She was so happy when she got to meet you," Jane told Ava, taking away all the worries she had before.

"And that's how you will have your baby? And she will be really small like me when I was born? And you'll love her lots?"

Jane nodded. "That's how I'll have our baby, yes. But they might be bigger then you, or maybe smaller. Me and mommy will love her lots, just like we love you."

Maura, who had been listening in, stopped herself from interrupting and correcting Jane's grammer.

"When the new baby comes, you'll be really busy and really tired won't you," Ava stated. She had recently gained a new cousin and she saw how tired and busy Lydia and Tommy were.

"We will be tired and we will be busy, it's a lot of hard work. But that doesn't mean we'll love you any less, and we won't forget about you," Jane told her, understanding where the conversation was going. "You'll always be out little girl, and that isn't going to change when we have a new baby here."

Maura, listening to Jane handle the situation from the kitchen smiled to herself. Jane had said everything perfectly, given the perfect words to the little girl who was worried and informed her as best she could about how she had become pregnant.

"If you ever feel like we're forgetting about you, tell us. Because we don't want you to feel like that, we might just be a bit silly when the new baby is here. We want you to be happy and we don't want to make you feel sad," Maura spoke up.

"You're mommy's right. If you're worried about something, even if we are tired and acting a bit crazy because of the new baby, you should tell us so that we can help you. We don't ever want you to be sad."

Maur had joined them on the sofa so that Ava was sandwiched in between her parents.

"I'll help you with the new baby as well," Ava said, smiling. "And don't worry about being crazy, you already are, even without a new baby here," Ava finished, laughing.

Jane and Maura joined in her laughs, and began tickling Ava as well. Their laughing only grew louder as they continued. Once they stopped, Ava smiled up at her parents faces.

"You're the best mommies in the whole wide world ever," she said happily, before getting up and finishing her puzzle.

Jane and Maura smiled at each other. They were also the luckiest mommies in the whole wide world ever.

A/N: This didn't go exactly as I had planned, but I hope it was okay and doesn't seem all over the place, sometimes I get a little carried away when I'm writing. Thanks for reading!
