Disclaimer: I don't own Brian Jacques's brilliant masterpiece, Redwall. Promise.
Rating: K+
Songfic to the song "Broken Heats" by the Marcus Brothers. Its on the cd "8th Day, Brooklyn". The chorus (the paragraph…all the hearts are broken….) has been edited a bit (just a few lines taken out) because its in a different language. But I don't own the song, but I love it!
Was written very quickly. Hope you like it! R&R!!!!
How Long, How Long?
By: Shulamit
He woke up on his last morning
Under a sky so blue
The battlefield stretches a mile
Cries echo through
From the shackles and the chains
He whispers his final song
He's talking to heaven
When he cries….
How long, how long?
He would wake up. He would walk and walk the day through. He would find a place to sleep, and then he would wake and walk again. He was stuck in an endless cycle of pain, grief, and loss. One that seemed he would be left to wander forever, alone.
The wind blew across the desolate plain, ruffling his worn cloak. His sword, beginning to rust from the damp weather was strapped across his back, his only companion on the broken battlefield of his heart.
Though the Leningrad search lights
May be far behind her
She's living with a secret
That's buried deep inside her
She pictures the children
And she tries to stay strong
She talking to heaven
When she cries…
How long, how long?
He wasn't sure where he was going, or if he ever planned on stopping. He didn't even know how many days, weeks had gone by. He may have been walking forward but he was stuck in the past.
He used to have strength. Now it was a stranger to him. He would avoid creatures in the distant, afraid of his own anger and battle lust. He used to have courage. Now he just feared himself.
He thought of his oath, and didn't feel a thing. His oath was just a show of his cowardice at not facing the ones he should. He would carry his secret, along with his guilt, his entire life.
How long, how long?
All the hearts are broken
How can You shatter dreams?
When all the world is trembling
How can You shake anything?
And when all the songs have ended
Only Your song will sing better
You are the only one
Who can put a broken heart back together
He knew what had happened. It had broken his heart and many others along with his. But he felt it like a hammer. He wouldn't let himself forget. For if he did….he might forget her.
All he knew was that he would keep walking. Where to he didn't know. He didn't even care. He just knew that if he stopped walking, he would shatter into a million pieces and be scattered on the wind. The wind that sang a distant memory of bygone happiness…and song that would follow behind him, whispering.
It whispered of past days, tears, of joy. Joy that might once be held again, inside of him Just how long, though, he did not know.
When he cries….
How long, how long?
When she cries….
How long, how long?
A mouse came up over a hill and saw distance woodlands on the far horizon. He looked behind him towards the rough sea and empty mountains. He didn't know where he was headed. He didn't know anything. He just wondered….
How long, how long?
