Ryan/Esposito – Friendship, Slash, whatever

Yet another stack of paperwork had just been plunked unceremoniously onto his desk, causing Detective Kevin Ryan to deepen his frown lines. The warm, spring sun teased him through the small precinct windows, further illuminating the files waiting to be closed. And where the hell was Esposito anyway? He hadn't called in yet, and it wasn't like him to be this late to work. It seemed that lunch would have to wait today, and it wasn't a very pleasing thought. He grumbled something obscene and began in on his work, signing his name a little more savagely then was necessary, accidentally puncturing one document. Moments later, his cell phone buzzed from somewhere on the cluttered surface of the desk, causing the frazzled detective to let out a frustrated sigh. He finally found it, screen lit up with Esposito's name and a text message notification. "Hey Bro, sorry I'm late…lunch on me, ok?" Ryan just closed the phone, not even bothering to reply. Fifteen minutes later, Esposito sauntered into the room, grinning and hiding something under his sweatshirt. "So very kind of you to show up…" Ryan's tone suggested that he was barely concealing the urge to jump up and throttle his partner. Esposito recognized the anger in Ryan's eyes and took a precautionary step backward. "Peace offering?" Esposito's voice carried a note of hope. Ryan nodded. "Better be a good one…" Esposito let out the breath he had been holding and threw back the sweatshirt to reveal two McDonald's Happy Meals in classic red boxes. "I know you've been having a tough time lately, and I wanted to cheer you up…had to search all over the city for these boxes, too…" Esposito mentioned, seeing Ryan's face soften considerably. "Even got the toys…Hot Wheels, bro!" At the mention of Hot Wheels, Ryan snatched the nearest box and tore it open, searching for the shrink wrapped little vehicle. His eyes let up with delight when he finally found the red mustang replica. Almost immediately, he began driving it along the desk, previous bad mood forgotten as he supplied puttering car noises. Esposito laughed and fumbled around for his own toy. His, ironically, was a police car and the two of them spent the next hour ignoring case files, eating child sized food and having a make believe car chase along Beckett's desk…much to her annoyance.
