Chapter 1
I looked out the window of the car door. The rain was pounding on the roof as we drove by the gas station on the highway. "Mooom, when will we get there?" Cadence, my little sister complained. "Soon." Mom replied to her with a smile. Cadence sighed. "Soon is not good enough. I want to swim!" I chuckled, "Not in this weather!" She leaned back into her seat. "Why don't you play your D.S.?" Mom suggested. "It died three hours ago." Cadence muttered. "Yeah, I mean, when ARE we going to get there? We've been driving in this crap for almost 10 hours now!" Chloe, my older sister, complained. "Hey, I said we'll get there soon! I you keep driving me nuts, It's going to take much longer! Follow Katie's good example!" Mom snapped. I smiled proudly at the sound of my name. "You should play the license plate game, or the..." "Those are lame!" Chloe interrupted Dad. Dad turned around and closed his eyes, probably imagining the warm moist sand sprinkled carefully under his feet and the waves tumbling over the sand, leaving beautiful seashells behind. I honestly couldn't wait to get there! "When we get there, what are we going to do first?" I asked Dad. He was still lost in thought. "Dad?" I asked him. "Huh, what?" Dad said, startled. "Are we there yet?" Dad asked as he sat up. I laughed, "No Dad, I wanted to ask you something." "Well, what is it?" Dad asked me. "What are we going to do first when we get there?" I asked him. "Well, unpack, of course!" He replied. Oops! I forgot about that! "Oh." I said. I slumped back in my seat. I stared out the window, though I couldn't see anything but the rain sliding down the window. "We're here!" Mom said happily. She pulled into the driveway of the beach house, and looked at the card that said, "1157 Sandy Drive, OBX Estate , North Carolina." "Yep, this is it!" Mom said happily. She sighed, "Thank God, I about died with you guys bugging me the whole way!" Mom looked at us and smiled. "Hey, we weren't THAT bad!" Chloe said, then added, "At least I wasn't!" "Wait until the ride home!" I joked to mom. That wiped the big smile off her face as she said, "Don't remind me!" We all laughed, even grabbed our stuff and ran inside to see the house. Dad unlocked the door and opened it. "Wow, this is amazing! The pictures don't do justice!" Dad exclaimed excitingly. "WOW!" Chloe said. "A-ma-zing!" I said in awe. "Oh my gosh! Look at THE POOL!" Cadence screamed happily, running to the window. It WAS sweet! It had a diving board, and a slide, and beside it, a hot tub! "Let's go look at the rooms!" I told everyone. We dropped our stuff and ran up the stairs. When we got to the top of the stairs, Mom told me, "Oh no! I forgot my pillow! Will you go get it Katie?" Mom asked me. I groaned, "Fine." I walked down the stairs and went outside. I opened the trunk to the car when I heard a shuffle behind the bush. I turned around. Nothing at all. I turned back to the car, when I felt a tap on my shoulder, and a whisper of a voice Ii didn't know. "AGGGGHHH!" I screa med in horror. What is it?
