Hi everyone! I have decided to give this story another go, and will start out be re-writing all of my chapters, as I have improved as a writer over the past couple years. I hope everyone enjoys!
It was the last day of our Christmas break and therefor my friends and I had of course decided we should be spending the day together.
During the break, I had seen Hana, Liam and Cath, but I hadn't gotten the chance to see Annabeth as she had rushed of immediately after the last bell rang muttering about that camp and some problem. She seemed to rush off to this camp at random moments more and more often, and only gave us vague explanations whenever we asked her about it.
She had given us a hurried 'Merry Christmas!" before running out the door and disappearing to this infamous camp. She was back now though, and that was all that mattered
As I arrived at Annabeth's place I didn't bother knocking, and opened the door as I called out a greeting.
A chorus of "Hey Miles," came from the living room and I went in to join them.
I really looked forward to seeing Annabeth again, I had quite missed her, even though it had only been a couple of weeks since I last saw her and her dazzling, blond, curly hair, always tied up in a ponytail or fixed in a braid. "It's too distracting if it keeps falling in front of my face, Miles. I won't be able to see properly," she always told me whenever I asked why she never wore it down.
"Hope you guys haven't missed me too much," I said, joking, as I walked into the living room, but stopped in my tracks as I found an unfamiliar guy with Annabeth's feet planted firmly in his lap.
I looked away from Annabeth's feet and stared into his green eyes for a moment before looking at each of my friends in turn. They all seemed to think it was perfectly normal that this strange person had invited himself to be a part of hang-out session.
"Who is the stranger?" I asked then, because someone had to do it, and it didn't seem like anyone other than me would ask that question.
"The black-haired guy pushed Annabeth's feet out of his lap and got up. "Hi," he said and held out his hand, "I'm Percy."
"I'm Miles, but you probably figured that out already," I said as I shook his hand, somewhat bewildered.
"Yeah, I did." Percy flashed me smile and sat down again. I joined Liam in the smallest of the couches.
"How do you know Annabeth?" I asked as I let my eyes slide over her. She had a few new bruises on her arms and one cut that was only half visible on her left shoulder, but she smiled like nothing was wrong, and so I decided not to worry about them. She had had bruises all over herself for as long as I had known her.
"I'm just Annabeth's best friend in the whole wide world, isn't that right Wise Girl?"
"You wish." Annabeth responded and hit him lightly on his shoulder. "We know each other from camp."
"Right, right. We know each other from camp." Percy smiled, and placed Annabeth's feet in his lap again.
"What is it you do at this camp? You disappear to it time and time again, and you've never told us what you do?" Cath looked between Percy and Annabeth for an answer, but they just looked at each other. Probably debating silently.
I have known Cath the longest out of everyone and we have been friends since she dumped a bucket of sand over the head of that one annoying boy no one but the teachers liked in first grade. Back then she had long dark hair that almost matched her skin and always wore a toothy grin. She still wore that same smile now, but her hair had been cut short and was currently colored a dark blue. It changed color and style all the time these days. But I liked it.
Annabeth opened her mouth to answer Cath's question, but Percy beat her to it. "We climb the lava wall and train to fight monsters."
It was so obscure that we all burst out laughing. Annabeth and Percy shared a Look which led to Percy shrugging as if to say 'what? It didn't hurt'. Annabeth just shook her head and rolled her eyes.
"Okay, but what do you do for real?" Liam asked.
He was the tallest of everyone present and played on our school's basket team. He had math with Annabeth and they had been forced to work together on a big project at the end of freshman year and ended up becoming friends, and so he had become a part of our little group of misfits.
"What I just told you. We have campfires too. Oh, and a lake for canoeing and swimming." Percy sighed. "I love that lake."
"That reminds me, are you going to try out for the swimming team?" Annabeth looked at Percy.
"I don't know, it would be sort of cheating, don't you think?"
"No more cheating than me getting good grades."
Percy looked thoughtful. "I hadn't thought of it like that. I don't know, though. I'll talk to my mom about it. It would be fun though."
"Have you been swimming for long?" Liam asked. Sports were his area, but only Annabeth was ever interested in talking about it with him. He probably hoped to get another friend he could whom he could discuss with about whatever it is sportspeople discuss.
"Yeah, basically all my life. It's the one thing I've always been good at."
"It's the same with me and basket. It's just so much simpler than everything else, you know? Just a ball, a basket and me. Nothing else seems that simple anymore."
Hana, thankfully stopped the sports talk before it went any further, and they, God forbid, started discussing statistics. "That we can all agree on. Now let's talk about something other than sports. You know it bores us out of our minds Liam."
"Right, yeah sorry. How about we play a game?"
"Yes! I love games!" Hana exclaimed, clearly piping up at the idea.
"We know, Han, we really do." Cath patted her knee. "How about we play monopoly?"
"Oh no, that won't do. Percy cannot stand losing in monopoly." Annabeth laughed, and looked at Percy, who looked nowhere near as amused as she did.
"Yeah, lets not discuss that. Remember when we agreed to never discuss it? That agreement still stands."
Annabeth looked away, considering, then laughed again. "I'm sorry Seaweed Brain, but I have to tell them this story. It's just too funny"
"Don't you dare Chase, I swear by Styx I will -" But whatever Percy was going to do to Annabeth, we never found out, due to Annabeth interruption him, still laughing.
"This one time at camp we played monopoly, and Percy lost big time. Everything that could go wrong for him did. And our dear Percy never considered that the Stolls, the to biggest pranksters to ever exist, would cheat. He was so angry when he found out that he didn't talk to them for weeks. But that's not the worst of it. Oh no, he planned out his revenge. For weeks he was all gloomy and running of at odd times, and suddenly one day, he had perked up. That was when we knew something was going to happen. The Stolls were scared shitless, though they'll never admit it. Sadly for Percy, but luckily for everyone else, his revenge master plan backfired, and he had neon pink hair for one and a half week and got a horrible sunburn. I have some amazing pictures I'm saving for a special occasion or blackmailing. I haven't decided which yet. Maybe both."
Percy scowled. "I hate you, have I ever told you that?"
"A few times, I believe." Annabeth answered him, still amused. "But really, what should we play?"
"How about truth or dare?" Hana suggested.
No one objected so Hana started the game. She turned to Percy. "Truth or dare?"
