Storyline: Lucas and Peyton discuss their future regarding a baby
Author's Note: Just a cute little story idea I came up with. Hope you like!
"I just don't understand," Peyton sat in bed with her husband one night. They had this conversation many times before but she was hoping maybe this time it would be different. It wasn't.
"I'm just not ready, Peyton. Can't you understand that?" She looks at him wanting more answers from him.
"When will you exactly be ready, Lucas? I want to understand I do," She tries to remain calm this time.
"But I'm sorry, I can't. We've been married for over a year now...We both have pretty decent jobs and I love you, we love each other. Why don't you want to have a baby with me?" She asks as tears filled her green eyes, as much as she tried to stop them.
He looks over at his wife and lets out a slow sigh. He was tired physically, from a long day of work at the office and mentally, from getting into this never-ending conversation again, but the last thing he wanted was to upset his wife. That's the last thing he wanted.
"That's not it." He opens his arm out to her.
"Come here," He says softly as she leans into his embrace.
"I want to have a baby with you." He whispers to her.
"Hell, I want to have a lot of babies with you but why now? What's the rush?"
It took them so long to get here...To overcome all the crap that life threw their way. But finally, they were together and happy. He just wanted some time alone. Just him and her before they added another member into their family.
"Why do you have to say it like that," She asks looking up at him.
"A rush. Is it so wrong for wanting to start a family with you." She asks him sadly. Maybe part of it was because when she thought of family, she never really had that. The two mom's she knew died and her father was never around. She just wanted to start living the life she never had.
"Of course not baby because I want that too," He says and she starts to smile.
"But all I'm asking is for a little more time."
"How much more is a little time?" She knew how he was. Sometimes not getting a straight answer from him was worse than getting an answer at all.
"A year or two. Three tops." He bargains as she lets out a sad sigh.
In her mind that was such a long time. If she could have a baby today, she would. But, I guess waiting a few more years was better than nothing.
"Okay." She says quietly. He looks her in the eyes to see if it was really okay. Even though he was one of the few that Peyton let in and helped break down the walls she was known to put up when he first met her, she could still go back to the old habit and so easily put them back up if the time struck her. He sees her shift away from him and turn her back on him. He closes his eyes and sighs to himself.
"Peyt?" He sees her glance back at him.
"Some day, alright? I promise," He wraps his arms around her.
"some day we will have our baby." He sets his chin on her shoulder.
She smiles but she has to hold the tears that are trying so hard not to fall from her eyes.
"I know." She had faith that it would happen one day. She just wished that one day would be sooner than a few years from now.
"Some day." She whispers back as she lets her hand rest on top of his arm, that was hugging her from behind.
Maybe some day he would want this baby as much as she did. Maybe some day he would understand where she was coming from. But for now, she was just happy to close her eyes and know she has someone to wake up to every morning. The man she loved.
