A/N: This was really quick, so sorry for any mistakes! Reviews are always appreciated.
Burt goes to sleep in Kurt's bed relatively early. He and Blaine stay up watching tv a while longer and Blaine insists that Kurt should take Rachel's bed. He can stay on the couch.
"You've had a long day and you're stressing. Just sleep in a real bed, Kurt."
Kurt gives up the fight quickly because sleeping in a real bed does sound great. He goes to Rachel's bed and curls up. It sinks in then.
My dad has cancer.
Would he have to go through chemo? Would he be violently sick? God, Parenthood made him cry every week with this season's cancer storyline and now he has his own. Everything was just starting to feel okay again. He and Blaine were talking. He was in NYADA. He finally stopped getting lost on the three trains he had to take to get from Vogue's offices back to Bushwick.
Tears started to run down Kurt's face. What if his dad died? He'd be an orphan. Can you still be an orphan at 19? He had Carole, and he loved Carole, but she wasn't always there. He didn't want to lose any more family.
"Kurt?" Blaine peeked into the divider curtains. "Are you okay?"
Kurt sniffed. "Yeah, Blaine."
"No, you're crying. Can I come in?"
Blaine could see Kurt nod as the streetlights just barely illuminated his face. Blaine was deciding the best way to approach as he walked over. Sit on the floor next to the bed? Stand? But as he nears he notices how wet Kurt's face is and all reason goes out the window.
He crawls onto the bed, staying above the covers and wraps his arm around Kurt. Kurt buries his face into Blaine's chest. His sobs are muffled by Blaine's tshirt. "Why does this have to happen? Why does it have to be him?" Kurt sobs.
"I don't know, Kurt. It isn't fair."
"Everything always gets harder."
"Shhh."
"He could die."
"Hey, don't worry about that. He's a fighter. Prostate cancer is treatable. It's not as bad as it seems." He rubs Kurt's back.
"I hate this."
"Me too, Kurt. Me too."
"You promise you'll let me know what's happening there?"
"Promise. I'm going to start going to Friday night Hudmel house dinners again with Sam and Finn. I'll call you every Saturday morning and tell you how he's doing."
"I want to go home."
"No. Kurt, look at me." Kurt lifted his head up and Blaine put his hands on his shoulders. "You are going to stay here. You're going to do amazingly well at NYADA because you've watched Rachel in her first semester. You'll know how to be the best. You're going to stay here and make your dad proud and I will make sure you don't miss a beat at home, okay?"
Kurt nods. "Thanks." Kurt hiccups and breathes deeply, trying to stop crying.
"If you need to cry, you can."
"I don't want to keep you."
"I'll stay as long as you need me, Kurt. You can save the brave face for Rachel or Isabelle."
Kurt wraps his arms around Blaine and buries his face in his shoulder.
When Burt wakes the next morning, he notices the empty couch and Rachel's partially open divider curtain. He peeks in to find Kurt asleep, wrapped in Blaine's arms. Burt just smiles and goes to make pancakes.
