House: Gryffindor, Category: Drabble, Prompt: The Junk Drawer, Word Count: 386
It calls me.
The drawer; the one beside my bed that holds old trinkets, forgotten memories, things of long ago. Now, I feel the strangest, almost magnetic attraction towards it.
I must open the drawer.
It makes a creaking noise as I take hold of the wooden knob and pull.
The letter. Simply seeing the envelope sitting there rips a hole through my chest. It's the last letter Draco ever gave me. He told me not to open it until after the war was over, until we knew what the world would hold for us.
It's been three years and I haven't been able to bring myself to break the seal.
Three years.
Three years since I saw him; three years since the love of my life was so cruelly wrenched away. It has been three years that this letter has been hidden in the drawer of lost things.
With trembling fingers, I extract the memory from its hiding place, the tears already threatening to fall. I close my eyes and take a deep breath as I open the envelope.
Hermione,
If you're reading this, I'm already gone. But I know it was worth it because if you're reading this letter, you're still alive and my last moments were a success. I don't know what happened or what drew you to open this letter but I'm glad you did.
Even the barrier of death can't keep us apart forever. I died with every fiber of my being in love with you. So, this isn't a good-bye, it's a 'see you later'.
And I can't wait for when we meet again.
Draco.
I sink down onto my bed, the air stolen from my lungs, tears streaming down my cheeks. All along, he knew he was going to die protecting me, because we were never supposed to exist. It made things complicated, made an already dangerous situation even more dire. We were young, he was daring with nothing left to lose, I was in need of affection.
Would I change a moment of it? Not for the world. I'm going live life for both of us, and one day, we'll be together again.
"See you later," I whisper into the air.
I close my eyes once more as I touch my lips to his name on the parchment.
