~ Peetnis ~
~ Katniss ~
01.
After the rebellion, everyone wanted to forget, rebuild, and start over. Even fifteen year later, you could still see the burns and scars people have. Everything was broken and nothing could go back to normal.
In my case, Prim and my mother were gone. My family. I am lucky, yes lucky, enough to have Peeta with me.
The leaves were crunching under my feet. My bow and arrow in hand. A deer had caught my sight and couldn't keep my eyes off of it. With silent feet I made my way to a good shooting distance. And just as was prepared to shoot, a nauseating feeling spread through me. I felt dizzy and to keep my balance I had to hold tight to a tree.
After a while of trying to regain my balance, I stood up. I looked over at where the deer was to see he wasn't there.
"Crap!" I muttered.
02.
I heard a door open followed by a voice.
"Katniss? You home?"
It was Peeta. I quickly ran to him and stood before we slammed together.
"Did you bring any?" I asked him urgently.
Puzzled, he looked at me. "Bring what?"
"Cheese buns. Did you?" I said, urgently.
"No…" he said, slowly.
And right then and there, I fell to the floor and started to cry inconsolably. One thing that identifies me is that I never ever cry.
Surprised, Peeta fell to me, "Katniss, what's wrong?"
"You didn't bring any cheese buns!" I practically yelled in his ear.
'If you want I'll make you some now. I have all I nee—." Peeta tried.
"NO! Don't you understand?" I said.
"Um… I am afraid I don't…" he said, holding me. I pushed him off.
He started to chuckle.
"Why are you chuckling?" I said, half angered, half surprised.
"I always know what you need, Katniss." He said, pulling something out of his pocket. It was wrapped in wax paper. He handed it to me.
I unwrapped it to reveal a delicious treat. A cheese bun. I just remember something hard passing through my throat. I sighed in content.
03.
Peeta had told me months, even years, ago that he wanted to have a child with me. I told him no, many times until that time. I had finally accepted. So we tried to put it in action.
Tonight was one of those nights.
He laid on top of me, breathing heavily. He kissed my forehead and rolled off.
"Kat, we have tried many times and noth—"
That nauseating feeling began again. I put the back of my hand on my mouth and the other on my bare stomach. I breathed out and sighed. I turned to see Peeta smiling like an idiot and not being able to smudge it off.
"Don't say anything." I told him.
"Make me."
"I mean it!" I warned him.
He wrapped his arms firmly around me and set a hand over my stomach.
"We will figure it out, Katniss." He nuzzled against my neck and it made me shiver. "Thank you."
I stayed silent and nodded. He soon fell asleep in that position. I just couldn't sleep. So I looked at the ceiling above, trying to count the lines on the wooden roof.
This is just a little sin. I ABSOLUTELY love pressing that new story button. It's becoming a habit. So I hope you like this little one-shot. Review, please. Thanks!
