Small Poem about a UNSC Marine in combat during the Raid on the Silent Cartographer's island on Alpha Halo.
Our boots sank in the mud,
Our clothes, soaked with blood.
I looked and saw my best friend Dave,
Two weeks since his last shave.
We spent fourteen days
Fighting in a dizzy haze.
Combat on world after world,
Makes you wanna hurl.
Dave goes down,
Kevin too.
I stand there silent,
Alone on some distant island.
I feel some pain,
And then I die.
An everyday thing,
In a marines life.
I cooked this up playing Halo Combat Evolved this morning (8/5/07) fighting for the Silent Cartographer on Legendary. By everyday thing in a marine's life I mean that marines basically die everyday in the war against the Covenant. And when marines see their friends go down one by one they feel "pain" and then they "die" a little. Or at least, I would anyway.
