Disclaimer: Obviously, I do not own anything but the plot.

He realised it in that moment, that one crucial moment, that he had been on the wrong side his entire life. He had completely wasted any chance of being with the girl he loved, because he was sure she would never forgive him for what he was about to do. He could see his mother beckoning for him to join her, hear his father mumbling anxiously. He could feel the eyes of everyone in the courtyard upon him, yet he couldn't bring himself to move. He knew that if he were to turn to Hermione, they would both die, and he would break his mother's heart in the process. Going with his parents was the only way he could ever be with her in the future, it seemed the only logical thing to do... He chanced a last fleeting glance behind him, and tried to communicate with her in that one glance that he was sorry, that he would be back, that he loved her...

The silence seemed to have dragged on forever, and Hermione felt a silent tear slip down her face. She knew what he was going to choose, what he had to choose. Strong though Hermione was, the look she received from Draco when he turned around broke her. She felt the word form on her lips before she could stop herself.

"Draco."

This issued confused glances from those close enough to have heard her, but she didn't notice. She was too busy watching him turn around, watching him walk away. Watching him leave her.

Author's note: I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with this.. I might make this a two or three shot or something, leave a review and let me know :]
