The Funny Thing about Good Deeds...

Truth is, Sometimes being Good Sucks.

...

Len groaned in frustration at the tall woman his right hand was locked with. "Oh really? When Lenny was two years old he used to sing and dance around in his Spiderman undies to Pretty Cure, it was the cutest darn thing!" The woman looked down at the embarrassed boy with a warm smile and light chuckle. Len turned his head only to see a blonde girl near his age of six snickering and sticking her tongue out at him much to his dismay. Every single time, every Halloween his mother had to embarrass him to his four year old "archnemesis's" mother! It drove him insane, he was wasting precious trick or treating time with his mother's hogwash. And didn't she realize? Spiderman was soooo three weeks ago, Batman was totally in now. Len thought with a smirk as he looked over himself in his new Batman costume with satisfaction.

"Batman is way cooler than Fairy Princesses!" He mouthed to Rin. She huffed and crossed her right arm, as the left was held by her laughing mother.

"That's hilarious Julie! Ahahaha!" Mrs. Kagami (Rin's mother) laughed out, snorting a couple times.

Len groaned again and tugged sharply at his mother's arm, earning a scowl before she allowed him to go on ahead. "Don't go too far, and watch over Rin." Mrs. Kagami called. "Remember, no going inside anyone's house, and don't take any candy that isn't wrapped properly!" Len rolled his eyes at his overprotective mother's warnings, but made sure to stay only a few feet from Rin anyway. "Ha, you watch Pretty Cure!" Rin teased. Len growled slightly and quickened his pace.

"Finally!" He called to himself, reaching his first house of the night. He walked slowly up to a large house that seemed to be completely empty, not even a car in the driveway. There were a few plastic pumpkins with brightly lit black and orange ghost lights around the roof of the two story building, but nothing extravagant. Only a few inches from the front door stood a white painted wooden table that Len cautiously walked up to. On the table sat a medium sized, orange, plastic pumpkin bowl with a small yellow sign attached to it by a clothes pin.

PLEASE TAKE ONE ONLY

THANK YOU!

Len glanced around to see no one at the house and no one at the other houses paying him any attention. He contemplated taking two, maybe even three, but he saw his reflection in the screen door. Blonde messy hair barely visible under his Batman mask and suit, complete with the black cape that flowed to his ankles, a dark belt with fake weapons, and Batman gloves.

"What would Batman do?" He asked himself.

He looked at the bowl of candy, back to his reflection, then at the bowl of candy with a new, and determined attitude. "He would have integibby!... ingely… integrity…" Len (started) heroically announced, reaching into the bowl with his favorite chocolates and banana flavored laffy-taffy. He snatched up a Reeses Pieces M&M's bag and glanced at it, momentary disappointed but proud he'd done the right thing. Len snapped out of his thoughts when Rin strolled up towards the bowl next to him. She reached in and grabbed a fist full of candy to put into her bag, the bowl now halfway gone.

"H-hey, what're you doing? It says only take one!"

Rin looked up at him with a 'I DARE you to tell' look confidently. "I can't read." She stated flatly and swiftly turned on her heels.

Len watched her walk away in awe and looked back at his reflection with angrily, but left the house with only a single bag of Reeses Pieces M&M's.
