I was reposing on a towel at the beach, when all of the sudden, dozens of bees flock around me and sting me with no mercy!

Actually, that was just Lily Evans, poking me.
"Amelia!" She shouted.
"What Lily?" I groaned, aggrivated. It wasn't even half past three and she was waking me up!
"Well.. Um... Er..."
"Spit it out, I haven't got much patience!"
"Well.. Have you noticed anything different about Potter?"
"Lily, can't this wait?"
"Not really, can we talk in the common room? The other girls might wake up."
"Urgh... Fine, Lily, but don't say I never did anything for you."
"Thanks so much Mia."
"Whatever," I grumbled as I unhappily slipped out of the warm and comfortable bed sheets.

Five minutes later, I was in the common room, ornery as ever, chatting with Lily about James for about the fifth time since we returned to Hogwarts. Today was the first day of term.

"Earth to Mia, anybody home?" Lily asked while waving a hand in front of my face.
"Hmm? Yeah, so what exactly have you noticed about James that is supposedly different?"
"Well, he hasn't asked me out since last term and-"
"Lily, we just got back to school," I interrupted.
"Yes, but I didn't hear from him all summer! Usually I get a whole bunch of letters from him!"
"Alright, anything else?"
"Well, you know how last year he would never do his school work?" She continued before I could speak, "This year he's taken over all of the Head duties, and he does all of his work! Crazy, huh?"
"I suppose-"
"He also seems to ignore me and only talks to me when completely necessary!" Lily interjected.
"Well, I really don't-
"Oh, and get this! He even asked Dumbledore if he could stay in his old dormitory!" She interrupted again.
"LILY! If you would just listen, I was going to say that maybe he wants to make his last year a good year. It's quite possible that he matured over summer. It's also possible that he doesn't like you anymore," I explained.
The look on Lily's face was priceless .
"You really think he doesn't like me?" She squeaked.
"I never said that's a definite, I just said it's possible. James and I don't usually talk about this kind of stuff!" I lied. "Why, do you like him?" I asked, smiling, although I've known the answer since third year.
"No, I was just wondering," Lily said defensively.
"Alright, well if thats all you need, I'm going back to bed," I declared as I gave her a sharp look.
"Thanks Mia, you're a wonderful friend."
"Yeah, yeah. Mention it."

I walked slowly up the stairs to my dorm. Lily and I share a dorm with Marlene McKinnon, and Alice Prewett. They're decent girls, although Marlene can be a bit edgy. She is a beautiful girl really, with long, curly brown hair, and defined features, but she's stolen too many boyfriends to have my respect. Alice, is quite the opposite. Alice is always thinking of other people, and she's very considerate. Alice's hair is very short, but it suits her. She is more of a natural beauty than Marlene. Alice has only had one boyfriend, Frank Longbottom; he's basically her other half. They're so alike, you would think they were made for each other.

I crawled back into bed and got a few good hours of dreamless sleep.

Thanks for reading my first ever fanfic, and a huge thanks to BlackElectric who has been helping me with this story!
