Hello everyone, this one-shot fanfic is about what happened in the episode Love And Rocket, when Fry gives his oxygen to Leela.
Please forgive any grammar and English mistake, it isn't my main language.
She had to stay alive. She had to save Bender, save the ship, save herself, save him. No, she didn't necessarily have to save him. Her oxygen was ending and there was no time left. She wouldn't have approved, he knew, but for once it was his choice. He would have definitely died just to earn some more minutes for her; and as soon as he attached his tube to hers he knew it would have happened.
He let go to the last air he had in his lungs to make sure she wouldn't have been distracted, maybe his oxygen tank didn't have much more oxygen left either.
The first minute passed slowly, without breathing; Fry felt dazed and weak and his lungs were burning like hell. He thanked God that he was floating because his body was going numb and his legs would have fallen under his weight if there was gravity. Maybe he would have fainted too, and Leela'd come over to help him, wasting her precious oxygen because of him. He couldn't let it happen.
Another minute passed. Leela said something, but her voice came from miles away and he didn't catch it. By now she should have done. She should have stopped the ship. She should have brought back oxygen. What if she was out of it too? What if she was screaming for help and he didn't hear her? The only active part of his brain shouted him to open his eyes and save her, but anything responded. It took some other seconds to his mind to stop responding too. It spent its last moments looking for a clue that Leela was still alive: a sound, a shadow, a touch. But nothing reached him. All of his thoughts died and then he hitted the ground.
Leela punched his chest three times before he finally felt it. He spilled out and coughed hard just to notice he could breathe again. She made it. He was back in the ground, cold air was filling the room and they were both alive. His thoughts stopped in that point. Leela was kneeled next to him and she seemed okay with his eternal relief, so when she read the candy that he had found he couldn't help but smile. It seemed even more accurate now.
"Happy Valentine's day, Fry." She said.
"Happy Valentine's day." He gasped.
Leela stared at him, breathing in and out on the floor, as he have missed to do until some moments ago. He could have died. Just some another seconds and she could have been staring at his dead body. Even the thought of it was unbearable.
"How do you feel?" she asked, shaking her head to remove that picture off her mind.
"Good" he panted and tried to get up.
After a few clumsy operations he managed to stay up. Eventually he fell over numb legs and she had to keep him from hit the ground again, and, in putting him back straight, she found herself hugging him. The picture of his lifeless body floated back in her mind and she held him tighter, burring her face in his blue uniform.
Fry held her as well, as tight as his weak arms could. And, even considered the pain in the chest, the dull headache and the almost death experience, that seemed like heaven.
Leela pulled back gently some moments later, smiling at him.
"Let's go see how is Bender doing." She said. Then she put his arm around her shoulder and they limped out of the Brain Room.
