Prompt: Choose any published poem that you like. Write it out with some space between each line. In the space between the lines create your own line, inspired by the published line above it. Once you are done, re-write YOUR poem by taking the lines from the published poem away. Re-work your lines as necessary to create a stand alone piece.
A/N: I'm awful at poetry, but the only way to get better is to practice, right? c: Prompt taken from poetry-at-dawn on tumblr. I used the poem Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe for inspiration. If you're wondering why it stops rhyming all of a sudden, it's sort of to symbolize how Mello is slowly deteriorating. OOC; it is a poem, after all. :p CRITICISM = LOVE. :3
Losing...Losing...Lost.
So long ago I have forgotten the time,
In this rotten world of ours,
There lived a boy who committed many crimes,
With several different aliases,
And this fellow had only one goal in his lifetime,
Which was to serve me well.
I was so young, but he was even younger
In this rotten world of ours,
But we knew exactly how to feed our hunger -
Us young fellows -
And never once did we have to stop and ponder
If this was truly our desire.
That's why, so long ago I've forgotten the time,
In this rotten world of ours,
I caused an explosion without a second thought
Or maybe not even a first;
So that we could be the ones who won the game
And not that self-declared God,
Or even that twit who still played with toys,
In this rotten world of ours.
The shinigamis - bored up there in Nothingness -
Decided to play their own game,
And so that is why you died that night,
And I couldn't fall asleep,
Mostly because I loved you but also because
I knew they were coming for me.
I wish to see you again but I am not done here!
I have not finished the game yet!
I have not won!
Nobody will stop me now, not after all of this,
Not after all they've put us through!
They killed you! They killed you!
They took you away and shot you!
I was determined before but now I am obsessed,
And I'll do anything for you,
Because this is how dearly I loved you, Matt,
So I will do anything for you!
And so, after all that we've been through,
I have finally reached my limit
But I never won - I never won!
I'll never forgive myself for losing -
I'll never forgive myself for losing you.
