Author's Note: To properly enjoy your reading experience, I recommend you listen to the song which titles your current chapter. Links will be provided at the beginning. I hope you enjoy this unorthodox romp into how I envisioned the second half of Glee: Season 2. I don't usually write fanfiction but I made an exception for this story. Couldn't help myself. The entire thing is written at this point, just editing each chapter now. It starts after "A Very Glee Christmas."

The formatting is difficult, I might change it later. I wanted to make it two columns but that seems to be impossible. If anyone knows how to do that, I'd appreciate advice!

"Spread Your Wings"

Kurt was in his room at the Dalton boarding house and he was staring at Pavarotti's cage. | Sammy was low

He was also dreaming, but he wouldn't realize that until later. For now, he just watched | Just watching the show

the bird as it grew larger, and larger. It fluffed up its beautiful yellow feathers until | Over and over again

they brushed the sides of the cage, then with a puff of effort, the cage fell apart and | Knew it was time

crumbled into useless twigs of metal.

He'd made up his mind

To leave his dead life behind

Pavarotti could also talk. He had a deep voice like Sean Connery. | His boss said to him

"You can break out of your cage, too, Kurt." | "Boy you'd better begin

To get those crazy notions

"But how?" Kurt asked. "The cage is the only thing keeping the monsters out." | right out of your head

Sammy who do you think that you are?

You should've been sweeping up the Emerald bar

Pavarotti continued expanding. Now he was the size of a large dog, and sitting on the | Spread your wings and fly away

coffee table brought them to eye level. The bird tilted his head to the side and pierced | Fly away, far away

into Kurt's mind with a luminous black stare. | Spread your little wings and fly away

Fly away, far away

"The cage doesn't keep the monsters out. It keeps you in." | Pull yourself together

'Cos you know you should do better

That's because you're a free man

Then the bird grew even larger, and clutched Kurt in his claws. His wings swooped, | He spends his evenings alone in his hotel room

sending papers flying and making the immaculate furniture shudder. They crashed | Keeping his thoughts to himself, he'd be leaving soon)

through the ceiling of the spiral staircase and were flying high above the sky. Kurt felt | Wishing he was miles and miles away

his heart soaring as well; he felt like a baby, curled into a ball and supported by the | Nothing in this world, nothing would make him stay

bird's talons. But a lump of fear grew as he saw where they were headed: McKinley.

Since he was small

Had no luck at all

There was nothing to fear. Pavarotti and Kurt knocked through the double doors of the | Nothing came easy to him

gymnasium, which was dark and lit only with paper lanterns. He was wearing a black | Now it was time

tuxedo now with a white bowtie. Because it was prom, obviously. All his friends were | He'd made up his mind

there, turning towards him with smiles and warmth. | "This could be my last chance"

"You've got to have ambition," Pavarotti said. "This is where you could be. If you just try." | His boss said to him

"Now listen boy!

You're always dreaming

You've got no real ambition, you won't get very far

Mr. Schuester and Coach Bieste were in full formal gear on stage reaching for the microphone.

Sammy boy, don't you know who you are ?

Why can't you be happy at the Emerald bar ?"

So honey

"And your PROM KING this year is KURT HUMMEL!" the last syllable dragged in the air | Spread your wings and fly away

like a triumphant sports announcer. The swelling cheers of the crowd rushed over him | Fly away, far away

and he found himself dancing with a boy slightly shorter than him with a winning smile | Spread your little wings and fly away

and a pink bow tie. They waltzed across the floor, spinning and kissing as the whole | Fly away, far away

school cheered them on. | Pull yourself together

Slowly, reluctantly, Kurt found himself regaining consciousness in his bunk bed, the | 'Cos you know you should do better

last command of Pavarotti's bellowing voice escaping from his own lips as he woke | That's because you're a free man

up and said: | C'mon honey

"Fly with me..." | Fly with me

He didnt know it yet, but this dream was the beginning.
