It was nine p.m. and Maka had just returned to from the nurse's office yesterday to see about some miner bruises and cuts. Maka was relaxing and throwing plenty of Maka-chops Souls way so Soul hadn't expected the school's nurse Stein to stop him to talk about Maka's health as he'd been walking home.

And Soul had furthermore not expected to hear what he'd heard.

"So you're saying Maka is a weapon!" Soul uttered. He stopped breathing altogether feeling like a huge weight had just been dropped on his chest. Both of his thumbs at his sides twitched as if anticipating swinging Maka the weapon around. It would be so cool. He could be a Meister. He could teach her how to swing her blade in the direction that he wanted her to go-like he had done for her. They'd definitely become better partners after they had experienced switching positions.

"Yeah, I am." Stien said, giving Soul his famous demonic smile. "But the thing is-."

"So what kind of weapon is she?" Soul, hopping up and down, could barely contain his excitement.

"Maka inherited her weapon genes from her father. Maka's a sythe."

Soul howled a cheer and then grinned toothily.

"Yes, yes. Calm down Soul. Maka is a weapon but a very dangerous one, you see-"

"Of course she's dangerous! She's Maka." Soul said as if this were the most obvious thing in the world. After rolling his eyes at Stein he pointed at his head. "She dents me twenty-four/seven. If she wasn't such a cool partner I'd dump her and get somebody else. Well bye Professor Stein I have to go find Maka." Soul began to race off-but then a thought occurred to him. He felt the instantaneous desire to point his discovery out to Stein.

"Maybe she can eat souls! And we can talk about what they taste like. We can bond about eating people's souls." Soul's eyes lit up like he was in heaven, a shred of drool made it's way through his teeth and onto the corner of his lips. The next second: Whooosh. Soul had disappeared down the school corridor.

Stein was still just opening his mouth to speak, to advise Soul about Maka, but Soul had already gone. Grimacing Stein gave up. "Ah, well. The boy will figure it out soon no doubt. I might as well get the bandages ready. There's going to be a lot of blood to clean up tonight."
