Prologue

"Blair, I'd like you to meet someone."
Her lifeless gaze followed her mom's hand as Eleanor introduced the young boy before her.
Clad in perhaps the most obnoxious shade of purple in existence, a handsome, two foot tall boy with an incredibly cheeky grin and nicely defined jawline smiled widely.
"His name is Charles Bass. You'll be seeing a lot of each other from now on." She placed a stern hand on Blair's back and pushed her forward. "Say hi."
She was so tired of this charade. No more introductions. No more "networking." No more useless intruders into her life. All she wanted was to spend time with her family, to shop in Paris with her mother and come home to a warm plate of her father's pie. Instead, her father was doing God knows what in God knows where and her mother, ever the mature maternal figure, drowned herself in her work.
And where was Blair in all this? She was stuck meeting the arrogant children of all her mother's investors. Every single one of them more pretentious than the next, and from the looks of it, this Charles Bass kid was no different. She was stuck with fake smiles and fake curtsies, fake laughs and fake relationships. She was stuck in a bottomless void of an unreal reality that was soon turning into her life.
But she supposes that one more day of this facade won't do anymore damage, so she fakes it one last time. At least, that's what she tells herself every day.
With an empty smile, Blair reaches out her hand to Charles Bass for a handshake. A completely platonic handshake between two elementary schoolers.
Instead she gets a swift kiss on the back of her hand and a whisper that follows. She feels his warm breath brush over her skin as he smiles that stupid, cocky, annoying smile.
"There's no use trying to hide it. I know that look in your eye. I see it in the mirror every day."
From his slightly lowered stance, he looks up at her with eyes darker than she had first noticed. For a moment she sees a slight spark in them, a flicker of mischievousness, before she reflexively snatches her hand back.
"If it's the look of disgust, then I'm glad you feel the same...Charles."
"Chuck. And, you have no idea." He smirks once more and they stand there in silence.
And, for the first time, she thinks that maybe she won't have to be fake. Maybe she can just be Blair. Not Blair Waldorf. Just Blair.
A/N: Hi, I'm new to this fandom lol. Finished 6 seasons of gossip girl in circa 4 months of Netflix binging. Fell in love with Chuck and Blair. For me, they actually made the show. As the seasons progressed the plot lines were more than unfeasible but the characters really kept me with the series until the end. They're so complex and real and they make mistakes and have regrets and have so many faults, but in the end, it all works out as long as they have each other c: their dynamic is so magnetic and something that really can only exist inside the realm of gossip girl (because in the real world, we'd call it an extremely unhealthy relationship). They're also funny af. Ah.
Anyway, this fandom on fanfiction seems a little dead to me...but I wanted to give this a shot. If you like it, leave me a review please! I'm not sure if I want to continue, but if I get enough feedback, I'll have motivation to write more ;) I'm sure you all know how it works...
The main premise of this fic will revolve around Chuck and Blair from the moment they meet and how their relationship evolves as they both change over time. Wouldn't call it AU because it'll follow the main story lines but it might stray a little. For the next few chapters I'm considering 10 years old, meeting Nate, and C/B growing colder. Then 15 years old she becomes bulimic and Chuck helps her through it (though she may or may not go back to Nate again) then some angst and fluff throughout high school and vignettes of their life together.
Thanks for reading, and review please!
PS if you're here because of author follow and you got a notification, watch gossip girl ;)
