Katharine sat alone in the apartment she and her sister shared. The teen was quietly working on her homework, Barbara had made her promise to keep up with her school work. If her grades slipped then she'd have to move back into the Clocktower, the teen was determined not to let that happen. She loved the freedom that came in staying with her sister and she wasn't about to give it up without a fight.

With a sigh, she shifted on the couch getting more comfortable as she wrote down an answer from her history book onto her the worksheet. There was still a part of her that wondered why she needed to worry about this junk, she already knew what she'd be when she 'grew up' and crimefighters didn't need to know why the settlers came to America. But Barbara, of course, refused to buy that thinking. All of her homework had to be done regardless of what Katharine thought of the idea.

Her attention absently let her thoughts wonder for a moment as she humming along softly to the song that was playing over the speakers in the apartment.

Love was hidden within your smoke. Blinding lights and disheartened hope. Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh One mistake is all it really takes to take my breath away. Go on put the knife in. Run away, don't need you anyway although I wish you'd stay. Go on put the knife in.

She was just about to let her focus go back to her homework when she heard a sound outside the apartment. Raising a brow she stared at the door. She knew those footsteps.

Moments later her sister walked into the apartment with a pizza in hand. "Hey sis hungry?" Helena asked with a grin. Katharine nodded eagerly, "Starving!"

Quickly shutting her textbook she turned down the music and all but jumped over the couch to get to pizza. Helena chuckled lightly grabbed a couple of cokes from the fridge and set the on the island between herself and Katharine.

She watched her sister a moment with a chuckle. The teen had already opened the pizza box and was picking at the pepperoni, "Hey now don't eat all the good stuff." Helena teased. Katharine grinned picking off another piece eating it with a smirk, "Hey you snooze you loose sis" She said as she finally grabbed a slice of pizza taking a bite.

Helena just laughed as she grabbed a slice for herself taking a bite before she spoke, "So how's the homework going for the night?" She asked as she opened her coke. Katherine shrugged slightly opening her coke too, "It goes okay. I'm almost done." she answered then took a drink as she picked at her pizza again.

"That's good I'm glad you're keeping up with it. I know Barbara won't let you stay here if you don't." Helena told her baby sister between bites of her pizza.

Katharine nodded, "Yeah, I mean I like Barbara and Dinah it's just... like staying with you better." She told her as she ate. There was something different about staying with her sister, it had been a little more cramped when Helena had that apartment over the bar, but now that she'd moved into a bigger space it was more 'roomy' for the sister. Katharine even had her own room, it was only on those nights that Helena spent the evening with Reese that she went back to the Clocktower now.

Quickly finishing off her slice of pizza Katharine grabbed another, "So are you going on sweeps tonight or are you going out with Reese?" She asked picking at a piece of pepperoni.

Helena shrugged, "He's still at work, so maybe later. So you and I can go kick some bad guy ass for awhile." She said with a smile.

Katharine nodded as she ate her pizza, "You haven't told him yet have you?" She asked looking up at her sister. Helena shook her head slightly. "Helena you have to tell him." Katharine pressed it, she was about to say something else when Helena held up a hand silencing her sister.

She put a hand to her ear pressing the receiver against her eat a little more. "Is Kat with you? I've been calling her for over an hour." "Relax Barbara she's with me." A soft sigh was heard in Helena's ear as Barbara sighed, "Good, remind her it's a transceiver, not a Walkman." Helena couldn't help but laugh when Barbara said that how many times had she told her the very same thing. "I'll tell her, now what's up?" "I need both of you to come to the clock tower, it's urgent." Helena raised a brow, and nodded as if Barbara could see her, "Get your comm." she whispered to Katharine, "Am I in trouble?" Katharine asked softly. "Just get your comm we gotta go," Katharine nodded putting her pizza down before quickly going to grab her comm off the coffee table. "Both of you just hurry up." Barbara's voice cut into Helena's ear again. "Keep your clothes on Barbara we're comin'." Helena answered, "Good. Hurry." Barbara said before she let the line go quiet.

"What the hell is all that about?" Katharine asked as she pulled her shoes back on. "No clue but we have to get to the Clocktower, whatever it is it's important," Helena answered as she quickly put the rest of the pizza and their cokes in the fridge.

Moments later the sisters had left the apartment and were running to the clocktower. Normally the pair would have taken to the rooftops, but it was still daylight they couldn't take that chance right now.

It didn't take long for them to reach the clocktower, they rode up in the elevator together with no clue what to expect. But the second the doors opened the reason became all too clear.

Helena walked out glaring at the man in the room, she didn't know why he was back here but she didn't want to find out.

"Dad!" Katharine shouted happily rushing to him letting her arms wrap around him. Bruce smiled at his youngest as he lifted her off the ground a little as he returned the hug. "There's my girl." He said as he put her back on her own two feet.

Helena meanwhile snorted, Barbara had made it sound so 'important'. To Katharine maybe but to her, this wasn't anything she gave a damn about. Shaking her head she sighed started to turn and go when she heard Barbara's voice, "Helena wait." Helena turned towards the woman, "Why should I? He's here for her, for however long he decides to stay." Bruce let Katharine go and turned towards Helena, "Helena please I..." Helena shook her head cutting him off, "Don't start Bruce, save your crap for her." She said looking to her baby sister, "Maybe someday she'll learn that you never stick around." With that, she pushed the button beside the elevator to open the doors. "Helena..." Katharine breathed but Helena ignored her.

As they opened Barbara spoke quickly, "Helena please he needs your help..." But the words fell on stubborn ears as Helena turned around with her arms crossed against her chest. She gave Bruce a cold glare as the door closed.

Bruce sighed, "That went better than I thought it would," he said with a wry smile as he looked to his youngest. "So what do you need help with?" Katharine asked forcing her eyes to look away from the elevator door. She wanted to go to her sister, but she was curious what had brought her dad back to New Gotham. Especially if he needed 'their help'. She for one couldn't help but be curious.

Bruce smiled at Katharine slightly before moving back to Barbara's side, "I know you'll only let me borrow Helena, that is if she comes around, but I could really the extra eyes on this Barbara. Even with Tori and Dick on this, I'm at a loss." Katharine blinked, "Why can't I help? And Tori is with you, when is she coming back?" the teen asked throwing several questions at her mentor and dad. "Because I need someone to be able to come with me to Bludhaven and you and Dinah both have classes. And yes, Victoria is with me but only while she's helping with this. Dick and I can only do so much."

At the mention of Dick Grayson, Barbara couldn't help but smile a little, it was clear she still had a thing for him. He'd been chasing her for years but she never wanted to admit that she 'wanted' him. Simply because at the time they were 'friends' and crimefighters together. But since Wade had died, she found herself a little lonely. Even with Helena, Katharine, Dinah, Victoria and Alfred around, they just couldn't fill all of the voids in her heart.

Such was the life of a crime fighter, it wasn't easy and it was as Helena said 'a thankless job'. Lousy hours. Nonexistent pay. No recognition.
