It was a warm summer morning. Narcissa Malfoy was sitting on a chair in her and Lucius' bedroom reading a book. She was nine months pregnant and being extremely careful. She wasn't even allowed to leave the house anymore, much less the bedroom. "How is mummy supposed to get any reading done when you keep kicking me?" The curtains were drawn back, letting a fair amount of light shine into the room. She rubbed her belly and smiled. The baby kicked again. Narcissa felt a grinding pain in her stomach. "Oh no sweetie," she said to her belly, suddenly aware of what was happening, "Not today please. I have things to do..." The pains were mild, not at all in a pattern of any sort, so they must be just the early symptoms of labor. Lucius came into the room, and walked up to her. "How are you doing? Do you need anything?" He asked, putting a hand on her shoulder. He was getting more and more worried as each day passed.

Narcissa wasn't paying attention to what he was saying, instead, she was rubbing her belly. She was trying to calm down the baby, now kicking again. The pains were getting a bit worse.

"I-I'm fine," Cissy whispered, obiously trying told hold back any sign of pain. Narcissa felt like she had gotten hit in the lower back with a baseball bat. Gulping for air, she saw black spots dance in front of her eyes. She gripped the table still harder and felt herself drowning in a wave of pain.

Then a warm, strong hand was on her back, stroking it in long, soothing circles. "No you're not," Lucius said. He started to sing.

"Why…. are you….singing!?", Narcissa panted.

"To help you breathing! Don't you remember?" his pale grey eyes looked warm and reassuring, albeit a little bit nervous

"You're supposed to blow out on every syllable. A sick-le for a ball of thread. Or would you rather 'the hop-ping pot'? I'm rather fond of 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'"

"I don't think it's anything bad enough to worry about," Cissy said back to her through gritted teeth. "I've never really had a baby before," She shifted in her chair once again, her bulging stomach had been cramping up like crazy.

"We should get the physician." Lucius said, now starting to become worried.

Bellatrix casually strolled in. She knew it was impolite to enter somebody's sleeping chambers without knocking, but she didn't care, "Lucius, we can't get the physician until we know she's definitely in labor." She said, mocking the person in charge of the pregnancy class her and Lucius -the people who are with Narcissa most- had to attend.

Narcissa felt a sharp pain in her lower back and stomach. "Labor has definitely started!" She said.

"Bella, just get the mediwitch." Lucius demanded.

Here she was, 24 years old, about to give birth to her first child. All kinds of thoughts rushed through her mind, What if she died during childbirth? What if the baby died? What if she wasn't a good mother?

Narcissa winced as she was laid out on her bed. She was in obvious pain, and was trying to steady her breathing as Bella came in with the mediwitch.
