"Oh wow! Cloud look! They have lovehearts!" Aeris cried in delight, pointing to the sweets shelf in the small store. Cloud raised an eyebrow, expecting to see huge heart-shapes sitting on the shelfs or something. Upon seeing his look, she blinked in surprise. "Don't tell me you've never heard of them!" she cried and Cloud ran a hand through his hair as he shook his head.
Aeris rolled her eyes and picked the packet off the shelf before handing the cashier the money. She waited for Cloud to finish paying for the group's supplies before they exited the shop. Aeris ripped open the packet of sweets and took one out, admiring the smooth pink surface before giggling. She caught Cloud's glance out of the corner of her eye and smiled.
"Lovehearts are sweets that have little messages on them," she explained before showing him her own.
"Call me," he read aloud, raising an eyebrow again. Aeris smiled and popped it into her mouth with a shrug.
"I always liked them. Want one?" she asked. Cloud took a moment to answer. before he shyly held out his hand. Aeris picked one out and handed it to him, not really looking at it. She didn't notice the way Cloud stared at it with a shocked expression as she continued along the path towards the hotel.
"Are you coming Cloud?" she asked, turning to face him.
"Yeah," he replied after a moment as he looked up at her. Her body was framed by the sunlight, casting a beautiful glow on her skin. Now that he looked at her properly, he could see the attractive side to her. Of course, he had noticed her beauty before, it was hard to ignore. However, he had never thought there was more to it than just attraction. He had never thought of the possibility that he could be in love with her. He wondered if she felt the same. He looked down at the loveheart in his hand and swallowed. There was only one way to find out.
"Aeris!" he called, sprinting after her. She turned to him again, tilting her head curiously. He smiled and placed the loveheart in her hand. "I think you should have this one."
She frowned and then opened up her palm. Her eyes went wide as she looked at Cloud, searching for amusement. But she knew Cloud would never joke about anything, especially not something this serious. She looked down again, her heart fluttering as she read the words:
"Be mine."
