I walked up the cobblestone streets, holding my last 1000 bells. The fishing hadn't been good today: only caught a sea bass and a carp. It was raining so there were no bugs out. My whole town was filled with holes from treasure hunting. My tent had become soggy and worn. I had hit rock bottom. As I opened the door to Tom's Housing, I saw the familiar glow of the florescent lights and the deafening ding of the doorbell.

"Ah!" Tom Nook greeting me with a smile, "If it isn't our wonderful mayor! Here to pay your down payment?"

I mustered up a polite smile.

"Yes, I have the last 1,000 bells right here!" I handed him the sack as he gave a small chuckle.

"Perfect, now construction on your house can begin!"

I let out a sigh of relief. Finally. I could get this chubby raccoon off my back. At least, that's what I thought. Tom chuckled once more and gave me a bill.

"What's this?" I asked.

"Oh, just the rest of your housing loan. Take this to Phyllis at the post office, she'll set up your payment plan." he paused just long enough to see the shock on my face. "Oh, oh no, don't worry! You can pay at your own pace! Try not to stress to much about it."

I mustered up and smile and a small thanks before grabbing the paper and heading outside. Once I was at the post office, I leaned against the wall and glanced at my bill. $39,000 was typed in red, bolded comic sans. Comic sans? Really Nook?

I pushed open the door to the post office where I was meet with a slightly less deafening ding. Phyllis looked up from the counter and smiled.

"Welcome to the post office, what can I do for you?"

I slid her my bill.

"Ooh! I'll set up a Nook Payment Plan right away. Give me one moment."

She tapped a few buttons on the computer behind her desk.

"All set, you can now pay your home loan on the machine upfront!"

"Thanks Phyllis." I said somberly.

I was heading towards the door when she stopped me.

"Mayor, is something troubling you?"

My hand paused on the door. I turned around and looked her straight in the eye.

"Honestly, i've been in a financial rut ever since I moved here. Bugs and fish don't pay the bills you know?" I paused, looking away for a moment. I looked back up. "I would do anything to pay off this debt. I don't wanna have to move back. This town... is my home."

Phyllis nodded.

"I completely understand." she said. "Here, take this."

She held out a small tan business card. I walked back to the counter and grabbed for it. Before Phyllis let go she said,

"Don't look at this until you get home, understand?"

I nodded and she released her grasp on the card, wishing me a nice day as I headed out the door. As I walked back to my town, I tried not to think about the glimpse of the card I saw. I kept assuring myself my eyes had tricked me. Phyllis would never... Tom Nook could never... but as I layed on my bed and pulled out the card, I was proven wrong. Printed in segoe script was "Nook's Whore Home".

What the fuck did I just get myself into?
