He only feels complete when he holds her.
(He might also be surprised that she knows this.)
She awakes upon the first ghostly touch upon her face, calloused fingertips lingering on her porcelain cheek for a sparse moment in the near, quiet darkness. When she looks up, aquamarine pierces her soul, holding her gaze for what seems like an eternity. He trembles for a moment, eyes alit with the peppermint glow of starfall as he glances to and fro between her parted lips and wide eyed expression. Overwhelmed by the intensity of her gaze he breaks the connection between aqua and indigo pools, bowing his head with faint guilt and some mixture of shame. Stunned, a faint rosy hue warms her facial features as she blinks haphazardly; once, twice, three times, before moving over to accommodate his trembling, muscular form. She allows him to envelop her dainty body and pull her firmly to his side so as to breathe in the scent of her cranberry hair. Instantaneously, as if letting out a breath he hadn't known he'd been holding. She feels his whole body relax against hers for the very first time since returning to her, to the light.
"I missed you," she whispers softly in the dark, voice ringing with truth and utmost sincerity.
She hears a sharp intake of breath behind her, and feels him move closer. Then she remembers who he is, and the realization tears through her mind like a small pebble breaking a pond's metallic surface. She realizes his silence is all the answer she needs and the teenaged girl smiles. After all, she's got what she's always wanted and he's right here beside her. She's not a demanding type of person, anyway.
But then he surprises her and says, "I missed you too, Kairi."
She knows that one day this hideous, all consuming fear of losing her will leave him and he'll no longer look over her shoulder, but until then, she doesn't think it's so bad that he needs her so much. Not when she can press her cheek against his warm chest and fit her head under his chin as if they were only two puzzle pieces finally turned the right way. At that moment, the truth is very clear and causes a secret smile to decorate her features, eyes shining in the moon's watery light.
Kairi only feels complete when he holds her.
