Author's Note: Alright, so this fic was inspired at camp. I had gone to church camp, and apparently, Church of Christ camps didn't do co-ed swimming during the free time. ALL the guys had to be at the pool, whether they wanted to swim or not. Same went for the girls. I wrote this one day when the girls were at the pool and I didn't want to swim.

Yamato hated pools. He seriously hated pools. He was at the moment in elementary school, sitting at the pool while the rest of his classmates swam.
It was summer time, and right now his class was sharing the pool with another class from a smaller, poorer, elementary school. His classmates and his teacher had for the most part given up on getting him in the pool (he had gladly taken the bad mark for his participation grade).
He had just taken to sitting in the shade, fully clothed, somehow successfully thwarting every attempt to get him into the pool against his will. He looked up however when he saw a shadow shyly approach where he was sitting, there was a boy, a little younger then he was, being led over to his spot by the other teacher. He saw two other boys get out of the pool to greet him, only to look at him sadly after talking to him for a few minutes and then going back into the pool.
"Just go over and sit by Ogata-kun. You can be excused for today." one of the teachers said to him. The boy nodded and went over and sat next to Yamato, he to was still fully clothed. They both sat there for awhile in silence. The newcomer was the first to speak.
"Why aren't you swimming?" he asked Yamato. Yamato looked at the other wearily.
"I just didn't want to." Yamato said simply. "Why aren't you?" he asked back. The younger boy got a sad look on his face. That shut Yamato up immediately.
"My parents." he said simply, answering Yamato's unasked question (no matter what age, guys didn't talk about their feelings, even if they were in elementary school). Yamato just nodded. "What's your name...Ogata...?"
"Yamato. What's your name?" Yamato asked him.
"Kazama Ren." the now identified boy said to him politely. Now that Yamato looked at him closer, he could tell that the other had been at a funeral earlier that day. "I got here to late to change." he explained. Yamato just nodded.
After that, they had spent the rest of the period talking. As it turned out, the main reason both of them weren't in the water was because they both hated the pool. The reason they both hated the pool?
Neither could swim.
