Now, she realises why everything had to go downhill. It was too much. All the expectations she laid down for her life are insignificant right now, blown away by the wind to be replaced with a harsher reality, without the ring and the house with enough space for kids.
She shouldn't have expected that much. She's just Lucy; a figure often forgotten amongst the faces of all the Weasley-Potters that swim in and out of focus, dancing on the headlines of Witch Weekly and the trashy Wizarding tabloids. She's nothing special, only gracing the headlines recently because of… the scandal.
Her relationship with Louis wasn't a scandal. But the magazines say that and it's so hard to Lucy to step outside now without someone yelling at her, asking her how she feels and how she could do that and—
And it's too much.
Because she was too proud, too upstanding and he was always there for her but Lucy was a fool to believe he could ever let go of wondering if just because she was sorted into Slytherin, she's evil.
Because her pride was too much, just by itself, and coupled with his prejudice nothing could work. And then the fact that they're cousins—such a scandal—tops it off, dooming the relationship to never work.
An old paperback book lies forgotten in the corner, the pages yellowing from being turned too many times. The book reads Pride and Prejudice. And maybe it could work for Lizzie and Mr Darcy, but for Lucy and Louis it was never going to work out.
