Disclaimer: I don't own Warehouse 13. If I did, it wouldn't be taking until July for season two to come out.

Claimer: Uh, the story's mine.

Notes: Entirely from Pete the ferret's view.

Edit 10/14/09: A huge thank you to my dad who caught my error! Love you!

There we were. It was the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, don't ask for the exact date, and let it be known that it is damn cold in South Dakota in the winter.

I was curled up on the rug on the hearth near the fire in the grate. Myka, Pete, and Claudia were all on the couch, the girl leaning on Myka's shoulder with her legs across Pete's lap. She seemed so much smaller in that moment, like a young girl snuggling with her parents.

And that's what started this whole wheel turning. We all turned to look as the door opened revealing Artie and Joshua and letting in the cold. The door closed behind them and I returned to my curled up position, and my thoughts.

When it got right down to it, Myka was like the mom, Pete was like the dad, Josh and Claudia were the kids, Leena was the strange aunt that no one was quite sure was actually related to the rest of the family but everyone loved her just the same, Artie was the uncle that was liked and disliked in turns, and I was the family pet.

I squawked indignantly as Josh picked me up, but dropped the grudge before it formed when he settled in cross-legged in front of the couch with me in his lap. Warm and happy, I was utterly content.

Leena came out with a plate of cookies made with Splenda -we just don't tell Pete or Artie that- and set them on the coffee table. I perked up a little and Josh offered me a cookie. I took it and began nibbling. It must have been cute because Leena and Myka giggled and Claudia gave a tired chuckle.

Leena settled into the heavily cushioned wicker chair with an end table between it and the couch, and Artie in the armchair on the other end of the couch.

I began falling into a dozing state as they talked and laughed and spent time as a family.

We weren't picture-perfect, or even passably fantastic. We were a patchwork quilt sewn together, threadbare and worn. But we were still a family.

I figured we could use some sweetness. Also, yeah, Leena's there, I know, I don't feel like explaining why she is. My first WH13 fanfic and it's from Ferret!Pete's view.

Also, I already feel like it's the holiday season, even though we haven't even had Halloween yet and I'm not sure I get why, but hey, why fight it?
