I Finally Found You- A Thor x Jane Drabble
(This is exactly how I picture their reunion will be.)
His mother said she would be all right, that Jane had only received a few cuts and bruises from the impact. Still, the sight of her lying unconscious on the bed, a large cut on her cheek, made Thor's blood run cold.
He wasn't even sure how in happened. All he could remember was the sight of the newly rebuilt Bifrost exploding from the sky, and Heimdall holding Jane in his arms. Utterly lifeless, she looked like she was dead.
Thor knelt beside her bed, gently clasping her hand in his.
Through the veil of unconsciousness Jane could sense someone holding her hand. But she only had a brief time to think about it, she was lost in a haze of memories. The memory of painstakingly working to rebuild the Bifrost. The pain of watching the TV and seeing Thor fighting alongside the Avengers, knowing that he gone back to Asgard and had not even dropped by for a visit. Two whole years, and he had not once tried to visit her. Had he forgotten her? And finally the excitement of the Bifrost actually working, but the force of it had been too strong, and she had gotten sucked in …
Where am I? She thought. Struggling with the heavy curtain of darkness, Jane finally broke free and opened her eyes.
Thor felt a surge of elation when he saw Jane's eyes open. At least she wasn't dead. But there was something else too, a feeling of guilt and shame that weighed on his heart like an anvil. Would she despise him for not visiting her? In a way he wanted her to hate him, to call him a bastard for not seeing her. At least that would give him some justification for loathing himself. But as Jane stared at him she didn't speak. Thor felt tears prick the back of his eyes, and he swallowed hard. He would not cry.
Finally he whispered, "Jane … " and his voice broke.
Thor didn't look a day older then when she had last seen him, but there were dark circles under his eyes. His hair had also gotten longer, falling into golden curls beneath his shoulders.
At the moment all Jane could do was stare at him. Her insides felt tangled up with emotions. Should she scream at him? After all, he had broken their deal; he hadn't come back for her. Should she hate him?
But when Thor said her name, it was all over. She sat up, throwing her arms around him, and burst into tears.
"Jane, Jane," Thor murmured helplessly as she sobbed into his shoulder.
"Jane, I am so sorry. Loki would have enslaved earth. I had to secure him in Asgard. I had no time …" But he knew excuses wouldn't make things better.
Finally giving into his emotions, Thor let a tear slide down his face and a sob escape his throat.
"I … I thought I'd never see you again." Jane managed to get out. It didn't sound particularly angry or elated.
"I know, I know," Thor murmured, stroking her hair.
" I give you my word Jane, I will go to the edges of the nine realms, and do whatever you ask of me, to prove my worth to you. I will never leave your side again Jane." He sounded on the verge of tears himself.
At that moment Jane almost forgave the God of Thunder for everything he'd ever done wrong, but not quite. It would take time for her to really forgive him. But for now this was enough.
"I believe you." She whispered, leaning in and kissing him tenderly on the lips.
Thor returned the kiss, gently pressing his tongue to hers.
After awhile, she pulled away and smiled at him. "I'm so glad I finally found you, Thor."
Thor smiled back. "I as well. Now you must rest Jane. The injuries you sustained from the Bifrost are not critical, but they will take time to heal. Sleep, and when you wake I will show you all of Asgard."
Obediently Jane lay down, and Thor stroked her hand until she fell asleep. Smiling, he leaned in and kissed her gently on the forehead.
He had missed her so much.
