Summary: A few haikus and a poem by Simon if he had survived the island

Innocence is gone

Lost to the Lord of the Flies

On that fateful isle

It's mouth a chasm

In which man shall fall into

Consuming his soul

My vision exists

Man once heroic and sick

Ravaging the land

There is no escape from the awful beast

The one the others do not understand

Who upon child's innocence feasts

I sit now in silent contemplation

Pondering the mysteries of man's nature

And of why I should survive that concatenation

My meeting with the Lord of the Flies

And acceptance of my own inner demon

Causes me now to speak in lies

I cannot tell the others the truth

For even the most intellectual would dismiss

And ignore all around them the proof

It still haunts my thoughts now

Not the demonic creature

But the look on their once innocent faces as the slaughtered the sow

The way they desired to drink untainted blood

Tear apart fragile flesh with carnivorous teeth

And bring destruction in a raging flood

The transition from child to savage

On that island cannot be undone

All of us boys civilization will not manage

We are changed, different

No longer a part of oblivious society

Our souls into hell are sent

The killing of Piggy and the hunt for Ralph

Crossed over the barrier between man and beast

Innocence consumed in the Lord of Flies mouth

We are criminals in a false humanity

Never to again enjoy the quiet oblivion

Nor take part in traditional propriety

We wept for the end of purity

As the devil laughed at our loss

Our soiled minds have lost their clarity

I sit here in the world I should have left

Pondering why I survived to live in hell

And of how easily the pureness of man is bereft
