"Matt?"
Mello stood in the doorway, shocked, as he took in the scene before him. The flat looked like it had been raided and in the middle of the carnage sat his best friend, facing away from him, shoulders shaking as gasps seemed to rack his body. Was he crying?
The blond was fuelled with rage and betrayal. This wasn't right. Mello he… he was the one to break down. Not Matt. Matt was supposed to be strong enough, emotionally, for the both of them. When things went wrong in Mello's line of work, Matt was the one to comfort him and tell him they'd find a way to sort the problem out. However, as the teen turned his blotchy face around, Mello's anger vanished immediately leaving only an overwhelming desire to help his best friend.
Rushing over Mello dropped to his knees, tugging Matt close to him as the teen's sobbing increased.
"Shit Matt." Mello breathed, looking down as he heard a soft mumble. Pushing him back gently Mello wiped at the tears with a small smile. "What did you say?"
Taking a deep breath, Matt tried to form his words properly. After 10 minutes of nonsense and Mello's continued support, telling him to calm down, Matt was finally able to piece together a sentence. "I… I thought you were dead… They were talking about it on the news and I hadn't heard from you since the night you kidnapped Takada…"
Mello smiled again, shaking his head. "No, I'm very much alive. I didn't think you'd be this upset though."
"Of course I'd be upset! You're my best friend! Why do you think I even bothered making an effort at all in Wammys? You, that's why… because you were there I didn't want to get kicked out so I studied and sure I was focused. All the teachers and Watari noticed the difference in me as soon as we became friends. That's probably why they paired us up in the same room. You're the reason I'm here today. In this room, because you're my best friend."
Mello couldn't help feeling guilty remembering the first time he'd left Matt behind. More so he was deeply touched that Matt cared this much about him. "No, Mail." Matt looked up at the use of his real name, green emerald locking on to icy blue, frowning. "You're so much more than that."
Leaning down Mello brushed his lips briefly against Matt's lips. The red head murmured against Mello's lips pushing up to deepen the kiss only to be pushed away. Running his hand across the gamers face and cupping his cheek Mello lifted his head so that they were once again looking into each others eyes. "Don't ruin the moment, please? I've had so much bad shit happen in the past I just need something pure. Just for a little while."
Matt nodded, understanding completely what the other needed. "Volim te, Mello." He whispered softly, ignoring Mello's startled gasp as he rose up to kiss the blond once more. This time keeping it so much more beautiful and meaningful that Mello could have cried right there and then.
"You learnt Croatian?" Mello asked once they'd parted now feeling the tears sting his eyes as they slid down his face. It was Matt's turn to wipe away the tears now. "Hey, don't cry… Yeah… I learnt Croatian a while back. Well only that one sentence. I've been waiting for a good time to use it." Mello was moved, pure and simple. "I… I don't know what to say…"
"Say it back?"
Mello laughed, nodding, causing more tears to fall. "Volim te guapo."
