Don't Take The Girl
Gilbert (8 years old) was standing beside his father, fishing pole in one hand and a bucket of worms in the other, gazing out at the glistening lake. He didn't see his dad often so when he had come home one day and his dad had suggested they go fishing together, Gilbert was so happy and couldn't wait to get on the boat. Just as they were about to board, a young girl carrying her own fishing pole rushed over to them.
"Please may i come with you?" The girl, Elizabeta, asked Gilbert's father sweetly.
His father smiled. "Of course you can."
Immediately, Gilbert turned towards his father and whined. "But, dad, i don't want her to go. Take Ludwig, or any one of my friends, but please, don't take the girl!"
His father shook his head at him. "Now, now, Gilbert, that's not nice. We can't just leave her. He gestured towards the boat. "Come on."
Elizabeta beamed up at him and climbed onto the boat with Gilbert following, begrudgingly, behind.
10 Years Later
Gilbert wrapped his arms around Elizabeta as he pressed his lips gently to hers. They remained like that until the picture show had ended. As they made their way down and alley to Gilbert's car, a man wearing a mask jumped out in front of them. He pulled out a gun and grabbed Elizabeta.
"If you do what i tell you to, there won't be any harm."
Gilbert began frantically rooting through his pockets, searching for anything of value which he could give to the man so that he wouldn't hurt her.
"Here. Take my money, take my wallet. Take my credit cards. Here's a watch that my grandpa gave me. Here's the key to my car." He pushed the load towards the man. "Take it! Take all of it! But, please, don't take the girl!"
The masked man snatched up the load and pushed Elizabeta towards Gilbert before sprinting off into the darkness. Gilbert caught her and held her close to his chest, breathing out a sigh of relief.
5 Years Later
Gilbert paced impatiently outside the door of Elizabeta's hospital room. He was bot anxious and excited. He was going to be a Daddy! The door opened and the doctor stepped out. Gilbert hurried over to him, grinning like a complete idiot. His mouth quickly dropped however, as he saw the doctor's expression.
He began to panic, "What happened!? Is the baby ok!? What's-!?"
The doctor held up his hand, cutting his off. "The baby's fine. But... I'm afraid... your wife is fading... fast..."
Gilbert immediately fell to his knees, his head in his hands. He looked up at the sky and prayed. "Take the very breath you gave me. Take the heart from my chest. I'll gladly take her place if you let me. Make this my last request. Take me out of this world. But, please, don't take the girl!" He began to sob violently. "Please, don't take the girl..."
