Prologue:
Victory

Ba-dump

Near's eyes flew open, his hands against his chest.

Ba-dump

Kira gave one last glance at the bullet hole in the wall behind him and grinned widely.

Ba-dump

Matsuda frantically reloaded his gun, but it was too late.

Ba-dump

Near's head suddenly lolled forwards, the rest of his body toppling over to the side. His cheek hit the cement ground, the entirety of the Task Force staring in horror. On Light's clipping of the Death Note, a single name was written in a desperate scrawl: Nate River. Matsuda had been their last hope, and even his well-practiced marksmanship couldn't stop the inevitable defeat of Near.

"Mikami."

One simple word unpaused the scene, and Kira's opposers widened their eyes in terror. The blonde calmly pulled the real Death Note from the pale body and handed it to an aghast Mikami. His quivering raven hair stilled, and a smile began to spread beneath rectangular glasses. Now that the man who could kill them all with ease had had his faith restored, there was nothing keeping him from ending the lives of every single one of his and Kira's foes. The warehouse burst into action as the SPK and Task Force members dove to cover their faces, to prevent the murderer's right hand from taking them by their necks and sucking every last breath from their short, short lives. It was futile.

Kira breathed in.

Thump

Thump-thump-thump

Kira breathed out. He waved his hand towards the fallen men and stared into the yellow eyes of his Shinigami friend.

"Ryuk… Today marks the start of a new era. The era in which Kira is truly God!"
