Standing before the massive shrine of stone and time, the girl felt... insignificant.
It had always made her feel this way, even on the first time she'd ever set her eyes upon it. But her feelings were akin to that; insignificant before her duty. She took a step forward, her snow white dress billowing out around her as a mystic, mysterious breeze blew around her. Her lips parted, and with her right hand forward, as if reaching out to grasp some unknown figure, she began to sing.
The hollow chasm echoed with the clear, beautiful tone of her voice, the light notes of her song reverberating with acoustics worthy of Olympus itself. As her first verse came to a close, her feet shifted, and she began a slow, graceful dance that sent her long, golden hair spinning in a dazzling display of radiance, the solitary beam of sunlight from the earthen ceiling above lighting her every movement with a golden sheen.
From deep within the shadows of the cave, a large figure stirred. Light gray smoke floated toward the open sky as a scaly indigo talon stretched out into her view. Within moments, the claw's owner revealed itself: a large, ancient dragon, with shimmering indigo scales and wisdom-filled, topaz-colored eyes. The massive beast laid on its stomach and watched the young girl, who was hardly as large as its eyes, dance and sing like no other. The low, gentle rumble of its breath resonated through the air, giving a subtle bass to the melody of the girl's words, and the song of fate flowed through the depths of the two's souls, destined to never find the ears of another.
At least, that is what the ancients foretold, but prophecies do not always hold true.
