I stretched my arm out in a desperate attempt to reach the book all the way on the top shelf. Even with a ladder and me standing on my tip toes, I still had a difficulty reaching the thick massive text.
"Why did they have to put it all the way up here?" I complained as the tips of my fingers began to pull the book out of it's case. It inched closer and closer until finally... "I got it!" I exclaimed cheerfully, but losing my balance at the same time.
Instead of landing on the Library's hard wood floor, I landed on something softer and more comfortable than I expected.
"Ow," a sound below me said.
I looked down and saw a red haired boy about my age below me.
"Oh my goodness, are you okay?" I asked getting up and helping out the stranger.
He dusted his clothes and laughed. "I'm okay. I just never thought girls would go so far as to me for my attention; I know I'm a catch, but-"
"What do you mean!" I said blushing madly, "It was an accident. I only fell because I had to get that stupid book and I fell because I was too short to reach it!"
The red haired boy stood there awkwardly until he said, "I was just kidding. I'm Lavi by the way."
"I-I'm Valerie."
"So tell me; why do you need that book anyway?"
"I need it for research Komui is making me do."
Lavi smirked at my statement. "Why read that thing when you have the a walking book with you," he said pointing at himself.
"You'd seriously help me? Even after falling on you?"
"Yeah; I like helping pretty girls."
I cheeks flushed red at this comment.
"Umm...thanks."
"Oh MY GOD!" I squealed at the top of my lungs, "Thank you so much Lavi; you saved me hours of reading."
"No problem; it was better than out that panda," Lavi said below me.
Once again I was on the top the ladder, on my tip toes, with my arms stretching out. But this time, I was placing the book back in it's place. I struggled to push the book back in it's place. As it inched closer and closer in, the ladder became more and more unstable until I finally leaned too far to one side and fell... on top of Lavi.
My lower body seemed to find its way on his lap and my chest pressed against his. As he sat up I began apologizing for the second time.
"Lavi I'm so-" but I was interrupted by a pair of cool lips pressing against mine.
I sat there in shook until Lavi pulled away smirking.
"Like I said before, I like helping pretty girls and if that means I have to cushion all of your falls then so be it," he said exiting the library. But before he could step outside the door, I tackled him to the floor and kissed him.
"I know," I said cockily, "but you should still let me apologize in one way or another."
And with that, I nuzzled into his chest thanking God for that damn ladder to fall.
