Zatsune Miku: Origins
I opened up Vocaloid 2. I had recently pirated it off of The Pirate Bay and I couldn't wait to get started! I love Hatsune Miku and I couldn't wait to make songs with her! The program loaded up and I'm greeted with the usual Vocaloid 2 GUI (Graphical User Interface).
I was still unfamiliar with Vocaloid 2. I figured I might as well try to remake a song before composing one. I quickly searched online for the notes to the song "World is Mine." I put in all the notes and syllables necessary into my program and it sounded just like as it does in the original!
Later, I had decided to listen to the original, and then quickly listen to my version. There wasn't much of a difference, but I can almost swear the voice of my version sounded a little darker, angrier, and less sweet than Miku's cute, happy, and cheerful voice. It wasn't too noticeable, but a person with a sharp ear could definitely feel the change of emotion.
I figured since the version I have is pirated, it must be a messed up copy or something! I closed the program, saving my work, and continued onto The Pirate Bay to see what other people have commented.
Most people claimed the program worked just fine and was thanking the person who uploaded this copy; however, I found a handful of people saying the same thing I had said. Here some of them:
"Whenever I listen to Miku sing, it sounds negative. It's like she is sad."
"Miku's singing in this version can only be described with negative connotative words like angry, sad, depressed, etc."
I decided to reinstall the program, hoping it would fix my issue. I opened the Vocaloid 2 editor, but this time, I wasn't greeted with the normal Vocaloid 2 GUI. Instead of the text to be typed in Miku's bright blue and teal colour, they were all replaced with red. I put my cursor over the piano and the note I was over was highlighted in red. The notes are supposed to be highlighted in teal.
The theme of my program was no longer Miku's colour scheme; it was all black, grey, and red. I must have installed it even worse this time. I decided to ignore the change of colours and have her sing a few songs.
Later, I couldn't think of anything so I playfully put in "Watashi wa Hatsune Miku," which means "I am Hatsune Miku." I played the sound and Vocaloid 2 stopped responding. I clicked around a few times, and patiently waited for the program to start responding. Once it started responding, the "Ha" in "Hatsune" changed to "Za."
"I am Zatsune Miku," she said.
My computer opened up an image without my command and it showed me the box art for Vocaloid 2. It wasn't Hatsune Miku that appeared. It looked like Hatsune Miku, but she had changed in her colour scheme and attitude as well. She didn't look happy and 雑音ミク (Zatsune Miku) was written where Miku's name on the box is supposed to be.
I heard a voice say "しね" very softly and my computer goes into the Blue Screen of Death. After rebooting my computer I no longer had Vocaloid 2.
