For the Best

"I think it was for the best," Kagome said, and although she spoke to InuYasha, her attention remained on the spirit and its mother. InuYasha's attention, however, was stuck on Kagome. Amber eyes that were used to marching around with a guarded gleam found themselves vulnerable as InuYasha thought, She did it. She pacified an angry ghost...

Kagome was making a habit out of surprising him. She identified Yura's weakness, saved his soul from being shattered by the un-mother, unearthed the Tessaiga, and managed to survive fatal injuries from both Sesshomaru and the Thunder Brothers. Actually, she probably did more than that, but InuYasha stopped keeping track.

It was also surprising how indestructible humans seemed when he was with Kagome—but they weren't—she wasn't. Kagome was constantly putting her life at risk, and it bothered InuYasha to think about how close to death she just came by helping this spirit. His brows shift downwards.

"Do you know the risk you took?!" InuYasha yelled, jumping over her and onto the balcony. The minute his feet hit the cool surface, he stared out at all of the tall buildings in Kagome's world. He wasn't interested in staying any longer. His friend was nearly dragged to hell here, and the thought of not having her around left a bad taste in his mouth. "One misstep and you'd have been dragged off to hell along with that evil little spirit!" He continued to lecture, rolling his eyes as Kagome all but shrugged it away.

He wanted to snap at her for deliberately disregarding his concern, but couldn't. Kagome's pensive mood was creeping him out, so he opted for picking her up from the other side of the railing without comment instead. "I know, but I had to help her, InuYasha. She was—"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," InuYasha barked, bending down. He didn't have to wait for Kagome to climb onto his back. "Are you done over here yet? That little brat, Shippo, is pissing me off. And the old hag? She's just as bad."

"No way! I still have to study for that geometry test on Thursday!" Kagome squeaked out, and InuYasha couldn't decide whether or not he should grimace at her predictable response.
