Chapter One

(Bomb)Blast From the Past

Clark Kent and Lois Lane looked up at the massive new Verner Chemical building. It had to be at least 60 stories high, and housed the company's corporate offices, and done in that "Art Deco" style, popular right now. The pair were assigned to cover the grand opening for the Daily Plane. All of Metropolis's dignitaries were there, including the Mayor, who was poised to cut the yellow ribbon with the requisite oversized scissors.

"Boring assignment this is," grumbled Lois Lane, adjusting her fashionable cloche hat. "Just another building opening. You'd think the Chief could find some sort of crime or disaster for us. Must be a slow week."

Clark Kent grinned. "You never know, Lois. The ceremony isn't over yet, anythinig could happen."

"Bah."

Their conversation was interrupted by a loud rumbling. The ground beneath their feet began to shake violently, even shaking the Verner Building. Clark knew he needed to slip away so he could deal with the situation, this was a job for SUPERMAN!

"You wait here, Lois, I'll go phone this in," he said.

"It figures. Clark the Coward runs off anytime something happens," she snorted. "Just don't hog the byline."

Sometimes Lois's insults stung, but Clark didn't have time to think about that now. Fortunately there was a public phone booth nearby. He stepped in and removed his outer clothing, revealing the red and blue tights underneath. Clark Kent stepped out of the phone booth as Superman, the Man of Steel!

Superman quickly flew back to the quake site, just in time to rescue a falling streetlamp, keeping it from falling on a mother and her child. His next task was to clear the area to prevent any further injuries.

"Attention, everyone!" he shouted, his powerful voice carrying for miles. "Clear the area now!"

"Need some help, Superman?" came a voice from above. The Man of Steel looked up to see the familiar form of The Green Lantern hovering overhead.

Superman smiled. "Always glad for the assistance, GL."

The Emerald Gladiator and the Man of Steel were unaware that high on a mountaintop outside the city, they were being watched....

John Talltimber smiled as he looked upon the telescreen, showing the destructive earthquake racking Metropolis, and the efforts of Superman and Green Lantern to stop it. This time, Superman won't foil my plans, he thought, remembering his failed attempt to force the government to give Manhattan Island back to his tribe. He turned to his partners in the room, a balding man in a white lab coat and a tall fellow in a black suit, with greasy black hair and a slick mustache.

"Shall I release them?" said the black-haired man.

Talltimber nodded. "Yes, Dalton. Let's see if our heroes can handle the dual threat."

Sorry for the short chapter, but that's enough to get you started anyway. More coming soon!
