Cruel Gods
There are many gods in the multiverse.
Some of them are benevolent. Sigmar to the God-Emperor of Man, Grungi to Isha…who seems to be worshipped in more than one universe, but that's in the realm of those who criticize the ideas of elves in space. And who cares about these gods anyway, when there are more malignant, arguably more powerful ones? The Chaos gods to the c'tan, Khaine to Gork and Mork…the gods are varied in morality, but all wield great power.
But they do not compare to the gods above them.
These gods are cruel and merciless. They begin in the Old World, laughing as the carnage unfolds among them. The denizens of the Empire fall against the might of Chaos, yet even the Chaos gods are ignorant to the powers above them. They curse as Bretonian knights crash into orcs and goblins, the former species of greenskin more interested in brawling and the latter always failing to summon up enough courage to stand and fight. The ways of mortals are fickle, but the gods control them…to an extent.
But is this enough to slake their bloodlust? No…they want more. More than what magic and steel can provide. They want war to become more simple, to remove magic altogether and toy with more simple psychic powers. They want angels of death to battle…other angels of death (are Chaos Space Marines angels of death?) They want to resolve their battles more quickly. More carnage. More conflict. More glory. More to the point where both superhuman armies lie vanquished on a barren, scenery-less world. And only then do these gods speak, their voices echoing across the world. Surveying the destruction, yet uncaring of it…
"So…we call it a draw then?"
"Sure man. GG."
And thus the carnage begins again.

Yeah...who didn't see that coming? ^_^
Minor note, despite what the oneshot might suggest, I don't see 40K as being superior to Fantasy. Think both have comparative strengths and weaknesses in both lore and gameplay, having been exposed to both game/lore in both settings. Actually introduced to 40K first, but to each their own I guess.
