Samantha Carter looked around the room. She sighed. Scantily clad men walked around serving drinks and the women at the tables were all engaged in animated conversations and eyeballing the men. She looked at her companion. The pretty young redhead seemed to be enjoying herself, joining in the ogling of men. Sam could not help but notice a couple had taken notice of the young woman. She smirked. It was probably good Jack was not here. He would go nuts if he thought the girl was being thought of with anything less than the best of intentions. I wonder how Jack and the guys are doing? I wonder if I should check in?
The pretty young redhead noticed Sam reaching into her bag. She reached out and grabbed Sam's hand. "Sam, you promised."
"Cassie, I was just going to check on them." Sam replied.
"They are fine Sam. I promise. They are all big boys. Besides, you know if they needed help, you would be the first one they called." Cassie replied.
Sam sighed and reached for her drink. "I suppose. It's just that…well this is not exactly my kind of fun."
Cassie grinned. "What, you don't like handsome guys waiting on you? Come on Sam, this is fun. Besides, it gives you a chance to study something other than science." She stated as she glanced at the backside of particularly handsome waiter that walked by.
"Cassie, most of these guys are young enough to be my…."
She stopped as seeing Cassie looking back at her with a very amused grin and raised eyebrows.
"….younger brothers." Sam finished weakly.
Cassie laughed. "Sam, seriously, you are not that old, you are beautiful, and you need to learn to relax and enjoy the scenery."
Sam sighed. How did she let herself fall into this? She watched as another waiter smiled at Cassie. She took a drink of her beer.
Cassie seemed to be reading her mind. "Sam, it's only one time. You know the rules. You and Jack cannot see each other before the wedding. Please, just enjoy."
Sam sighed again. Save the world, battle false gods, blow up a sun, battle replicators, ascended beings and for what? To be caught up in 'tradition'. Surely there was one of Jack's beloved clichés in here.
