There's an art to life's distractions,
To somehow escape the burning weight, the art of scraping through,
Some like to imagine,
The dark caress of someone else, I guess any thrill will do
Someone New - Hozier
If this was an opening scene from a movie, you'd see both our protagonists rising early, bright eyes and bushy tailed getting ready for their first official day at Beacon Hills High. But this wasn't a movie. This was real life and what person do you know that would ever wake up and be immediately happy to be awake. The youngest of the household was Aubree Carmichael, with dark blonde messy curls positioned in tight wound buns and her face pressed into the laptop keys at her desk. Her face was void of all traces of makeup and she liked it that way. Her cheek had the indents of computer keys as she rubbed at her eyes and physically forced herself under the cold stream of water that the shower provided.
The eldest was Peyton, already showered and dressed, ready for the day with her face made up perfectly, almost as if she had been airbrushed. The left side of her head had been braided in one long braid and the rest was left alone in soft curls. She was standing in the wide open kitchen, a mug of freshly brewed coffee in her pale hands as she stared out the window into their backyard. She had been up for three hours now, not because she was nervous but because she lacked the ability to sleep in, unlike the girl she called her younger sister.
She could hear the stirring of Aubree down the hall and the shower turn on. She's late, Peyton noted quietly in her head as she finished her coffee. Placing the empty ceramic in the sink she moved through the small one storey house with ease, coming to a stop in front of the bathroom door.
"Come on, freak. We got to leave in twenty minutes." she yelled, playfully bashing heavily on the door, knowing she'd probably startle to younger girl awake. It was a common occurrence for Aubree to fall asleep in the shower. So Peyton wasn't surprised when there was a loud thump, a groan and then the shower stopping. Laughing to herself she turned into her bedroom across the hall and pulled her little trolley of things she needed for her classes along with her handbag. While she knew she was physically strong enough to carry the books and textbooks in one arm, doing so would probably confuse half the student body.
Aubree had fallen. As always, for a werewolf, one who had been bitten years ago, she was incredibly clumsy. And it was the worst thing she could think of a werewolf being. She was also sleepy, but that wasn't a trait that she always possessed. She'd been up all night, of course, researching the small town of Beacon Hills, looking for anything suspicious. It was what she usually did. She was what Peyton called the brains. She was smart, smart enough that she was taking mostly AP classes in her final year and she was proud of that. However although being smart, she was also a recluse, she didn't like interacting with people other than her sister, who was her pack. If she did interact she barely said two words and that was just who she was.
The pair of blondes made their way to Peyton's fancy looking car, while Aubree didn't pay attention to what it was, she knew it was expensive, red and it turned every head in their direction as they pulled into the car park, well, as they pulled to a stop in front of the entrance. Clambering out, Aubree wiped her hands on the dark ripped jeans and headed towards the entrance.
"Oi." the loud voice of Peyton's travelled towards Aubree before she could get too far away. "I'll see you forth period, loser. Meet you here after." Peyton actually lived for annoying the younger girl and she got a kick out of it more than not, but both knew it was all playful and they were very lucky to share the bond that they did. The loud, unfamiliar voice reached around to most of the student body lingering around the entrance way, one group more than the other.
Scott McCall was actually shocked to hear a loud voice boom over the chattering of his friends. He searched to grounds quickly, looking for threat, a new habit he'd picked up as he gained his rank and his pack. Once he found the voice his shock became much more evident to those around him. His eyes locked on the ostentatious car and the woman inside of it. All he could tell from behind the sunglasses was that she was blonde and had dark eyes. But her voice was more what caught the attention of him and the rest of the pack. He searched the grounds again and he landed on the girl she was talking to. This girl, with long messy dark blonde curl hiding her face, was slumped downward, as if trying to hide as she made her way inside.
"Well..." Stiles trailed off as he watched his friend. "That was weird." Malia glanced up at him, her eyes squinting lightly almost in confusion, she couldn't figure out what was weird about what they had just witnessed.
"Who was that?" Liam questioned, watching the car peel out of it's spot before swerving down towards the teachers car park.
"I have no idea." Scott shrugged, turning back to the group with a light shrug and wrapping his arm around Kira's shoulder.
In the first three periods of the day, none of the McCall pack had run into the two girls that they had seen in the parking lot before. Scott was sure that the one who had been driving was a teacher, or at the very least a staff assistance because she had parked in the staff parking lot. But as he stepped into his fourth period Math class something was different. With Stiles on his heels followed by a few other the other seniors from his pack, they took in the vacant teachers desk and the students seating around in various seats. The younger girl from this morning sitting in the back corner, face buried in some book, unaware of her surroundings.
Peyton had a flare for dramatics, waiting in the teachers lounge no more than two doors away from her new classroom, until all her students were seated and chatting quietly amongst themselves. She had done this for every class, wanting to weed out the easily scared ones from the tougher ones. With a shove, the door flew open once more hitting against the wall with a loud bang, the students around the classroom jumping and letting squeaks out from between there lips.
"Good afternoon." Peyton greeted, pulling herself to sit up on the top of her desk, crossing one leg over the other and watched the class.
"Typical Peyton, you're an asshole." Aubree murmured under her breath knowing Peyton would hear her and shake her head, what Aubree hadn't known was that there was also a coyote, an alpha werewolf and a kitsune in the room with her sister and herself.
"Shut up Aubree." Peyton murmured back, her lips barely moving and that was enough to clue Scott in on something weird going on. He glanced at Kira and then to Malia and then towards Stiles, the only one that hadn't heard the words.
"Welcome to Senior year Mathematics." Peyton spoke aloud this time, to the entire class. "I'm your new teacher this, and we are doing things my way, so starting we are going to play a little game." she smirked, standing from the table and pulling off her leather jacket and throwing it back on the desk. Scott stared intently, there were things that reminded him of Derek, but also things that reminded him of Jackson.
"Let's start with you." Peyton broke his staring as she stood in front of his desk and stared down at him intently.
