So, my first SK fic. Yay!
I don't own Shaman King. I wish I was the Shaman Queen, however.
Hmm... well, obviously, this was inspired by that bit in the manga when Yoh says Ren's cute when he's mad.
So, enjoy "You're Cute when You're Mad"! Reviews are highly appreciated! Thanks!
"So then the woman says, 'Oh, I'm sorry! I thought you said peas!'" Horohoro began laughing.
Ryu snickered after a moment. Joco laughed. Yoh chuckled along just because laughter is extra contagious to him.
Ren stared the ice boy down and said flatly, "That was the dumbest joke I've ever heard. Joco's funnier than you."
"Yeah, well, at least I can tell a joke," he retorted. "Let's hear you tell one. Oh, wait. It'd go something like this: Once upon a time, I killed you, because I'm Tao Ren and I drink three glasses of milk a day."
The whole group burst into laughter – even Anna laughed – except Ren.
Ren looked like he was about to shove his weapon down Horo's throat, but he thought better of it. "Humph. Whatever. I don't care. Say what you want about me; you're still not funny."
He turned around and stormed away. "Come, Bason."
Yoh started after him, a very Hao-like smile on his face.
"And where do you think you're going?" his fiancée asked him, grabbing him by the ear.
"Ow – geez, Anna. I just want to tell Ren something."
"Well, make sure you're back before dinner, or Shorty will have to do it all himself."
"What?" Manta screamed.
"Don't worry, Manta. I'll be right back." He began to walk away again. "It'll only take a minute."
The boy found Ren standing alone on a cliff overlooking the sea. Completely alone – Bason was nowhere in sight.
"Ren."
He turned. He knew it was Yoh before he moved; he recognized the voice. The strangest thing was that he was alone – the samurai ghost never left his master's side.
Bason was gone, too, so it was just the two of them, alone.
"What do you want, Yoh?" he asked, trying his best to sound annoyed. It was hard – even he was calmed and felt at peace just by Yoh's presence.
"I just wanted to tell you something," the Asakura answered, with that smile of his. The easygoing, laid-back smile that belonged to him and him alone – not that smirk that was seen more often on Hao's lips.
Ren waited.
Silence.
"So what is it?" he demanded.
Yoh's smile grew even wider. And then he said five words.
"You're cute when you're mad."
The Chinese boy stared at him for a moment, and then he turned back to the sea. "Humph."
"Well, that's all I wanted to tell you." Yoh slipped his hands into his pockets and began to walk back.
"Yoh?"
He stopped when he heard his name, and looked over his shoulder at Ren. He hadn't moved. "Yeah, Ren?"
"Thanks."
Yoh's smile grew again – soon, it wouldn't fit on his face. "You're welcome."
He walked away, leaving the Tao boy alone on the cliff out to sea.
Their dark secret hung between them, growing in strength with the distance. It hung there, unspoken, but understood by them both.
You may only be cute when you're mad, but I'll always love you.
