The scent, it had been following him for days.

It didn't matter if they were in Suna or in Rain Country, it was a constant presence and Itachi had no idea where it came from. He'd already inspected all of the clothing, washed them twice, scouted the area; and still he came up with nothing!

He couldn't even say what it smelled like.

That, above all, irritated him – even if he didn't show it.

Kisame and he had just made camp in a forest at a location I am not allowed to say, when the smell came out stronger than usual.

A fish jumped in the pond that was several feet away.

And at that instant months of tied-up stress just flowed right off him. He'd never guess it - but if you thought about it, it really wasn't so far-fetched.

His face didn't change expression as he turned to Kisame. The man… shark… whatever, looked up at him, thinking he had something important to say.

"You smell like fish."
