"-My dad won't stop worrying about me and Danny won't leave me alone about missing class so much this week and I have so much homework I need to catch up on. And oh my god, I really need to clean the bathroom, it's disgusting, you haven't done-"

"-Shhhh, baby," the sultry tone whispered through the phone. "Everything will be alright. I promise."

"I just wish you were here." Laura said softly.

There was a pause. Laura could almost hear Carmilla's smile through the phone.

"I will be." Carmilla said cryptically.

Laura knew she wasn't serious. She was miles away on a new expedition to destroy the world or whatever it was anti-heroic vampire girlfriends did.

Carmilla's tone changed from cryptic to teasing. "Soon. Try not to drink my blood in the fridge, cupcake."

Before Laura could fully express her disgust, she heard the dial tone cut off. Carmilla had hung up.

Fuming at the sudden cut-off, Laura grabbed the Clorox and channeled her anger into furiously scrubbing the whole bathroom.

She calmed down considerably by the time she started making the beds. When she approached Carmilla's bed, she felt the exotic scent enter her airway and go straight into her heart, pushing an ache into her veins. Laura missed Carmilla so much. It had only been 3 days, but it felt like an eternity. Of course, when she brought this up to Carmilla, Carmilla's retory was that she had lived an eternity and Laura had absolutely no idea what that felt like. That shut Laura right up but it still didn't take the insatiable longing away from her.

With a heavy heart, Laura finished tidying Carmilla's bed, and sat into her own neat bed. She noticed the bat wing sticking out of the mattress, and placed it back onto her hand. It was strange. When it wasn't on her hand, it repulsed her. It was a bat wing, after all, and she was only human. But when it was on her hand, it reminded her of everything she loved about Carmilla. And of course, it helped her sleep through the night. She placed the bat wing onto her hand, but the truth was, it only made it worse. The wing would help Laura sleep peacefully, but the emotions behind it would only keep Laura up all night, making it impossible to fall asleep in the first place. She kept it on anyway.

The blonde sat in her bed for a few moments, then opted for a midnight snack. She opened the fridge but realized that was a mistake. She had spotted the Soy Milk (more like Soy Blood, Laura thought) and it sent another pang through her heart. She closed the fridge, appetite gone, and sat down on her bed dejectedly, knees curled up into a ball. She reached for her phone and started calling Carmilla again. With each passing ring, Laura wondered if she was being too clingy. Carmilla probably didn't even like her that much. Were they even really girlfriends? Prick after prick of insecurities swept through her until the voicemail finally went through. The click of the voicemail was unusually loud, and Laura was a bit startled by the noise after being too lost in her thoughts. "Hey, Carmilla, it's Laura. Just wanted to say I miss you. I know this is dumb. I just called you. And you hung up. You probably don't care. But I do. Okay, sorry, I'm dumb, bye." She finished lamely. She hung up and through her phone away.

"Well," a seductive voice emerged from behind her, "you're right about one thing, creampuff."

Before Laura could finish turning to face the door, she felt a sudden breeze and suddenly, the vampire was right next to her.

"You are dumb." She crooned into her ear.

Laura was startled, of course, but as Carmilla looked at her eyes, the human suddenly launched herself at the vampire. Her lips forcefully collided with Carmilla's, and even Carmilla was taken by surprise. Laura pulled away just as fast, earning herself a long eye-raise from Carmilla. "Wow, buttercup, where was that from?"

Laura suddenly buried her head into her hands. "I'm sorry, it's just," she gasped, "I just missed you and you know it makes me paranoid when you're out there being a vampire and you could get hurt and I just don't want to lose you again like the last ti-"

Carmilla swiftly lifted Laura's hands out of the way and replaced them with her own, tilting Laura's chin and kissing her in one fluid motion.

Their lips met each other in one long, silencing kiss that seemed to speak a thousand words.

"I missed you too, sundance."
