What Boredom Leads To.

Disclaimer: Don't own The Walking Dead or the books mentioned etc.

Carol was bored, the prison was almost clear and no one was really sure what to do. Sure, she had meals to cook, she still did the washing and also took watch but it wasn't enough to fill her day, Glenn and Maggie had come back from a run in to town and Daryl and Beth were putting everything away – a sight that made Carol giggle slightly. She found herself wishing for something to read so she picked up a bag and the knife Daryl gave her and told Rick she was going to the library.

As she wandered around the prison library, Carol felt as though she were a teenager again, searching the shelves for a new adventure. She picked up some books that the others might want to read as well but was still searching for one for herself. During her marriage to Ed he only allowed her to have recipe books in the house, in case she got any ideas. Well now that he was gone she could make her own decisions, even if it was only choosing a book. She eventually found a Sherlock Holmes novel, which she thought perhaps wasn't the best book to allow some prisoners to read but it was perfect for her.

She lifted the bag on to her shoulder and held the knife in her free hand as she made her way back to the cell block. As she came out the door Carl stepped in front of her startling her slightly. "Sorry, but dad asked me to check on you, didn't know how long you were going to take." He didn't say anything more and didn't seem to expect Carol to say anything so they walked back to the cell block in silence. Once they got back Carol rummaged in the bag and pulled out a book she thought Carl might appreciate, Carl looked at the offered book and smiled, she had heard him talking about Treasure Island back at the quarry when Rick first arrived and thought it might be something to take his mind of his troubles.

Hershel stopped Carol on her way back to the cell she shared and asked her to keep any eye on Lori; they were expecting the baby to arrive any day now and over the winter Hershel had been teaching Carol how to deliver the baby. It was a tense time for everyone and it was going to be very risky with the basic medical supplies they had gathered and both Carol and Hershel weren't sure if Lori or the baby would survive, especially if Lori had to have a caesarean. This was exactly the reason that Carol needed to relax and have something to take her mind off worrying about Lori, the tension that radiated from everyone was awful and they barely spoke to one another unless they had to.

Carol walked in to the cell and put down the bag before turning towards the bunk to check on Lori. Only Lori wasn't on her bed where Hershel said she would be. "Shit!" Almost as soon as it was out her mouth Daryl and Glenn were outside the cell looking confused by Carol's sudden outburst. That expression soon changed to concern as soon as they realised the problem. It didn't take long after that to organise the others in to groups to help find the pregnant woman. Hershel, Carl and Beth stayed behind in case she came back while the others split in to pairs to look for her, all armed in case they came across anything.

So where is Lori? Sorry to leave it this way but I am slightly evil. Reviews/advice always welcome. Hope you enjoy.
