Jack felt the heat wave before anything else; the sheer suddenness of it nearly knocked the poor winter spirit out of the air.
"What the..." His eyebrows furrowed. It was approaching Winter; heat like that didn't make any sense. The wind he was riding on brought him closer. He could see the flashes of light now, and the heat radiating from the area was becoming more and more intense. He closed in on a fairly large clearing. Right as he touched down, the wind swept him back up, a jet of fire narrowly missing his head.
"Thanks." he acknowledged the North Wind, a breeze ruffling his hair fondly in reply. He landed in the clearing once again. This time, he was able to get a clear view of the scene before him. There were three spirits in the center, two fire spirits if he was correct, and another that he couldn't quite see. Charred grass and puddles of what looked like water littered the ground. The three spirits we're engaged in combat, the fire spirits relentlessly attacking the third, and Jack caught a glimpse of long, dark blue hair as they dodged the vicious assaults.
"HEY!" Jack called, drawing the spirits' attention away from their target. Their heads snapped toward Jack, and her stepped back in shock. Eyes that should have been blazing orange or flaming red were pitch black. That was not a good sign.
The spirits took one look at the newly appointed guardian and sprinted away, not wanting to face the frost child in a fight. He looked back to the third spirit and froze.
"Kyla?"
