Hermione was everything he wanted. She was smart and beautiful. Despite, their terrible past, they were able to move on.
Draco was nervous as he waited at the altar beside Harry Potter of all people. His own friends had shunned him for choosing a Muggle-born. A mudblood. But he loved her. She reminded him of a better life, a better future than his parents had promised him.
He found his mom in the front, dabbing her crystal blue eyes. Even now, she still refused to show her tears. Narcissa Malfoy was a strong woman who hid her emotions behind those stone hard eyes of hers. But he knew that she loved him deeply. She had loved him enough to risk her life by saving Potter about a year ago.
Lucius Malfoy, fortunately, was not present. He shared the sentiments of Draco's friends and decided to stay home on his son's wedding day. Yes, it hurt to have his own father disown him. But, he knew one day Lucius would forgive him. Draco was his son, his only son. Of course, he would forgive, even if there were nothing to forgive.
Draco's grey eyes moved around the room. Almost half the room was filled with redheaded Weasleys. Even Ron, who had found love with Daphne Greengrass, was present with a huge smile on his face. Though they still did not like each other, they developed a mutual respect between them. Ron knew Draco loved Hermione enough to protect and shelter her. For him and Harry, that was enough.
Then his eyes moved to Hermione's parents. They were an average couple that loved their daughter to pieces. He had grown to love them. His mother-in-law always sent him sweets every other week because she knew of his sweet tooth. His father –in- law works against his wife by sending him oral health products. Overall they were a sweet couple and Draco was proud to be related to them.
The music started up and Draco gulped. Ginny Weasley walked down the aisle first with her red hair swept up. He saw Potter's eyes mist over and smirked. After the Weaslette, Looney Lovegood, bless her, was skipping toward the altar with a dazed expression on her face. The wedding party exchange looks among each other and Draco reddened with embarrassment. Looney gave Draco a gently smile before settling next to Ginny.
Finally, a muggle friend of Hermione's walked down the aisle looking very nervous. Draco guessed being in a church filled with wizards would freak her out a bit. The music slowed down as Draco looked up to see her.
Hermione was breathtaking. Her dark brown curls were tamed and swept up in an elegant knot with some tendrils left curling around her oval face. Her make-up was simple as Draco recognized those huge amber eyes and soft pink lips. She gave him a nervous smile as she walked slowly.
He admired the slope of her tan shoulders and the tendons of her long neck. She was truly beautiful. The wizards and witches gasped and several witches were dabbing their eyes as Draco leaned forward to take her hands. This was it. She was finally going to be hers.
"Draco." She whispered.
"Yes?"
"We can't do this." Those words pierced his heart as he sputtered, "What?"
"I-I just can't." Her eyes filled with tears and he knew she was lying. She was keeping something from him.
The crowd was murmuring, as the wizard priest had not begun to say the rites.
"Please Draco. I'm so sorry." With that, she turned and proceeded to run out of the church.
