A/N - I was given the choice to write a poem for school about one of the events in the Odyssey in grade eight. I was stuck for ideas, until a rhyme hit me out of the blue....I guess you could even say I got hit with the flutes of bone with their high sweet tone....literally. I've never been able to use this type of rhyme pattern ever before this poem, or ever since. Here is the poem I wrote in its entirety. Kinda short, but I'm pretty sure it's good...I got 20/20 on the assignment.

Disclaimer - Um....it should be kinda obvious....I'm not Homer or any of the people who translated his works. Therefore it is not mine.

*~*~* THE SIREN'S ISLE*~*~*

The flutes of bone with their high sweet tone

Play a heavenly descant to fire

One man alone, tied tight, all alone,

Will fall prey unto desire.

.

The oars match the thrum of the man-skin drum,

And the ship draws nearer still.

The Sirens' hum insists that he come,

In a contest of their will.

.

The waters churn and a heart will burn

If Ulysses heeds the voices.

His mind will yearn and he must learn

The consequences of his choices.

.

The Sirens in sight, oh what a fright!

Through the men it sends a quiver.

With raven-eyed sight and a vulture-like blight

In mind, they row off with a shiver.

.

The madness leaves and his heart grieves,

For what could have easily been.

An oar he heaves; his mind will ease

When he vows never to return again.

.

The flutes of bone with their high sweet tone

Play a heavenly descant to fire.

One man alone, as still as stone

Will fall prey unto desire.
